JOB PURPOSE: We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader with a strong background in optical/optoelectronics product development and manufacturing, to join the multidisciplinary development team to support the design and development of advanced optical components, modules and sub-systems to meet our customers’ needs. This position, reporting to the Director of Optical Technology, involves both leading and supporting projects from concept definition, detailed design, process definition and development, prototyping and qualification phases, through to implementation into volume manufacturing.      NATURE OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide project leadership within a multidisciplinary development team providing design, development and manufacturing solutions for optoelectronic and microelectronic products to meet customer specifications.  Development projects include, but are not limited to: Telecommunications components/modules/subsystems (lasers, detectors, modulators, receivers, amplifiers, transceivers, etc). Sensing / LiDAR optical components/systems. Medical, biomedical, military optoelectronic components. Support the business development and engineering teams in the creation and communication of customer program proposals in response to customer RFIs or RFQs. Customer management as primary customer interface, including schedule and task list development, communication/engagement protocols, reporting procedures and documentation, etc. Working with the development team to define all aspects of the development program through our Product Development Process, in-line with customers requirements. Ensure all project decisions are guided by the commercial terms and conditions of our customer’s contract(s) Oversee prototype and pre-production builds through definition and management of build plans and supply chain. Responsible for definition and execution of NPI activities, including, but not limited to supply chain management and qualification, ramp planning and scheduling, manufacturing readiness and product qualification and supply/demand management. Work closely with R&D/Engineering and Manufacturing Operations for efficient NPI. Motivate project team and drive on-time and on-budget execution of the defined program. Some travel may be required.   EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 12 years of direct and relevant experience in Program Management and/or Product Development. Understanding of the product development process, from concept design, to NPI, through to volume manufacturing, including qualification. Experience transferring complex products and processes into manufacturing. Experience analyzing project related data and utilization of standard project management tools and documentation and planning systems. Experience in a broad range of optical and microelectronic technologies, including materials and components and their supply chains, is considered an asset Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
