Technical Operations Order (OPORD) Writer


XVIII ABC Hub and Spoke MTCs provide individual and collective training on Army Mission Command Systems, using a variety of tools and Army fielded systems. These systems are used to support Small Unit Training: Squads through Company, Medium Unit Training: Battalion through Brigade, and Large Unit Training: Divisions and Corps in training environments ranging from Stability and Support Operations (SSO) through Unified Land Operations (ULO).

HOW A TECHNICAL OPORD WRITER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Responsible for creating Battalion through Corps level Operation Orders (OPORD) products with all associated annexes.  Create, evaluate, and refine Army and Joint Operations Plans and Orders for training or simulation driven exercises.Review products created within the Technical OPORD Writer section for accuracy, content, grammar, substance, and format correctness.Lead and partner with a cross functional Team of both contract staff and government experts to plan, coordinate, and resource complex training exercises in the live, virtual, and constructive training domains.Develop engaging and complex scenarios that challenge the training audience.Manage complex tasks, track milestone accomplishment, adjust plans as required, and ensures successful completion of assigned tasks prior to suspense.Collaborate with Technical OPORD Writers across XVIII Airborne Corps and other GDIT Mission Training Center (MTC) programs as required.Serve in a mentorship and/or observer/controller role as required.Gather observations based on unit actions during training events and provide input to unit After Action Reviews (AARs).Perform as a member of the Exercise Control (EXCON) and Higher Command (HICOM) during exercises as required; provide direction as needed for training units.Develop training support packages and facilitate Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) coursework as requested by the customer.Maintain a comprehensive repository of relevant Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).Develop processes and file structure to archive historically relevant OPORD materials.Work remotely when directed due to site closure and/or inclement weather.Work is predominantly intellectual in character and requires the employee to consistently exercise discretion and judgment.Perform limited manual and non-manual work directly related to the general business operations of the Fort Stewart MTC.Participates in special projects and perform other duties as required.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree, subject immaterial.Military Education: Graduate of Command and General Staff College (CGSC) or service equivalent required.Experience: Must have a minimum of twelve (12) years military experience; preponderance of experience should include serving at Battalion through Division level staffs and familiarity with the US Army’s European Command Area of Responsibility.Security Clearance: Requires Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.Required Skills and Abilities: Exceptional technical writing/editing abilities in Battalion through Corps OPORD production to include Annexes for various War Fighting Functions (WFFs).Ability to lead a planning team to create a high fidelity, realistic training event in a live, virtual, and constructive environment.Strong understanding of the Operational Environment (OE) utilizing the US Army’s Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE).Ability to conduct ongoing research and maintain cutting edge visibility of new and emerging warfighting capabilities and trends.Expert knowledge of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP).Expertise in the principles, methods, and techniques used in the development and delivery of Army training programs and Joint Event Life Cycle (JELC).Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of Mission Command (MC) systems; knowledge of, and experience with, emerging MC technologies.Excellent presentation and communication skills with great attention to detail, the ability to apply critical thinking to foresee issues, and proactively solve complex problems.Exceptional analytical and technical skills; a Team player with the ability to manage voluminous amounts of information quickly.Advanced proficiency with Adobe, SharePoint and MS 365 to include Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams; technologically proficient.Duties require exercising discretion, independent judgment, and decision-making.Participates in and performs additional duties, special projects, emerging responsibilities as required/directed.Physical labor tasks require the ability to lift/carry 50 pounds and climb ladders to a height of 6 to 12 feet to configure network/power cabling.Location: Fort Stewart MTC. Normal work schedule is 0730-1600, may require night, swing or weekend work shifts depending on specific training event requirements.Travel: May require occasional travel (less than 10%)
