**Description**
Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking an intern (sophomore or junior year of college/university) to work with senior engineers on a technical field test. This test involves the use of radio frequency detectors for a variety of sources in a potentially noisy area. Interns may assist with administrative office tasks, such as maintaining internal library resources. Interns assist senior staff with data gathering and analysis, along with other tasks. Tasks may include a review of professional journals and publications to extract and summarize information relevant to assigned research projects; research using internet-based search techniques, informational resources, and other available research tools.
As an intern, you will have the chance to learn through close interactions with senior research scientists that will provide you with opportunities for technical exploration. You may also be required to occasionally assist with routine office tasks, such as ordering supplies, printing/binding reports, and maintaining internal library resources.
**Technical Intern Required Skills:**
Due to the nature of the work, qualified candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. The candidate must be an enrolled full-time Sophomore or Junior student and have a GPA of 3.0 or greater (out of a 4.0) towards any B.A. or B.S. degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or Mathematics with 1-2 years of experience. The candidate must be able to work independently and must have good oral and written communication skills.
**Technical Intern Desired Qualifications:**
A candidate with a basic understanding of mathematical modeling of physical or engineering systems or processes is desirable. Basic computer programming and data analysis in any of the following languages are desirable: Python, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#. Familiarity with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), computer vision, edge/cloud computing, machine learning, embedded hardware, or wireless/ radio communications is a plus. Familiarity with Windows, MS Office, Linux, SharePoint, Git, and Jira is also a plus. Demonstrated strong research and analytical skills are a plus.
