Role description:
Aligned with Arcadis' strategy, the Technical Director for Rail Signalling will be instrumental in translating our global aspirations into a clear service delivery strategy for rail signalling and telecommunications. This role involves leading a team of engineering professionals and optimizing our service delivery to meet the evolving needs of projects across multiple geographies. Reporting directly to the GEC Mobility- Rail Systems Director, you will collaborate with other BA Mangers, Discipline Directors to ensure excellence in project delivery and strategic alignment with our business objectives.
Role accountabilities:
Define and drive the technical strategy for Rail Signalling and telecom systems within Arcadis. Develop and implement plans to build and retain a highly skilled and diverse team, ensuring alignment with both short-term and long-term workforce needs. Collaborate with senior management and business units to integrate technical solutions into the overall strategic vision. Technical Oversight & Project Delivery: Lead the design, development, and implementation of rail signalling systems across various projects. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards. Address and resolve technical challenges, maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Team Management & Development: Oversee and manage a team of 150+ engineering and BIM professionals, providing leadership and fostering professional growth. Develop and execute workforce plans to build capacity and competency, ensuring the team meets the demands of projects Promote career development and a culture of continuous learning and best practices within the team. Operational Excellence: Drive a culture of project delivery excellence, ensuring that technical resources are effectively utilized and aligned with project requirements. Implement standardization and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and consistency within the discipline. Manage key operational metrics, including cost billability, software usage, and team performance. Present technical solutions and progress reports to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project goals. Collaborate with other BA Managers and Directors to remove silos and deliver integrated solutions that benefit clients and the organization. Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends in rail signalling systems. Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation, leveraging new technologies to improve system performance and project outcomes. Lead initiatives to drive standardization and automation at scale within the discipline. Health & Safety: Promote a strong culture of health and safety within the team, setting a leadership example and ensuring compliance with safety practices. Address any health and safety concerns promptly and effectively, maintaining a safe working environmentQualifications & Experience:
Diploma / Bachelor's in Electrical / Electronic/ Communications / Computer Engineering 15+ years of experience in rail signalling, with a proven track record in leading large-scale Rail Signalling projects in Netherlands/UK/Australia. Chartership with reputed international professional bodies is preferred. Professional certifications related to rail signaling (e.g., IRSE license) Extensive knowledge of latest signaling systems such as CBTC, ERTMS/ETCS, or similar. Extensive knowledge in Dutch Railway Signalling Systems Significant experience in managing and growing a technical business function within a multinational engineering.
