Graybiel, whose research focuses on identifying neural mechanisms of learning, decision-making and action control, with high relevance to clinical disorders such as Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, autism and addiction; perform a wide range of laboratory techniques applied to neuroscience, especially histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization on brain tissue; assist in animal experiments, including mouse husbandry and breeding, colony management, behavior training and analysis; perform microscopy, including confocal and epifluorescence, and image analysis; be responsible for performing complex tasks without direct supervision; and share responsibility for daily operation of the histology laboratory, including record keeping, organization, and ordering supplies, ensuring safe operation, maintaining equipment, and managing chemical inventory. Scientific growth and development will be strongly emphasized in this position and it will offer an opportunity to train with the current holder of the position in order to develop crucial skills in a field and laboratory where techniques are evolving rapidly. Job Requirements REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferably with course work in neuroscience; a minimum of two years of relevant experience, including at least one year of experience with histology, including frozen tissue sectioning and processing; experience working with live animals in research, including knowledge of transgenic mouse lines; excellent organizational and communication skills; team orientation; meticulous attention to detail; flexibility; initiative; and a desire to work as part of a fast-paced team committed to cutting-edge neuroscience research. PREFERRED: Knowledge of and experience with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy; and the ability to perform other techniques mentioned above and knowledge of neuroanatomy and molecular biology.
