We are looking for a Team Leader - Quality Control interested in starting a SWEET career as part of our Quality Control team at PIM’s Somerset site in New Jersey.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of Quality inspectors engaged in inspecting incoming materials, in-process product, and finished products to ensure adherence to company quality standards and customer specifications. Responsible for supporting the quality assurance and food safety program. This includes working with customers, suppliers, corporate personnel, and manufacturing staff. Responsibilities includes auditing of Quality systems such as, SQF (Safe Quality Foods), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for plant Quality department. Responsible for communication of food quality standards to plant personnel through training, corrective actions, quality audits, production and facility monitoring.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Function as direct Supervisor of the hourly Quality team members.
+ Supports SQF, Food Safety and Quality Programs. This includes all SQF standards and customer specific standards as identified in supporting documentation.
+ Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management and SQFP.
+ Follow PIM Brands GMP rules and ensures GMP and Food Safety standards are in compliance.
+ Monitor fellow employees for adherence to GMPs.
+ Support HACCP/HARPC policies and procedures.
+ Participate in routine Food Safety Inspections.
+ Ensure all quality procedures and processes are followed according to documented policies.
+ Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all products manufactured by the plant as well as the raw materials, packaging materials, and operations required in the manufacturing process including quality specifications and standards.
+ Determining if specifications are met.
+ Conducting material reviews and make product disposition decisions.
+ Designs and implements quality control/assurance training programs.
+ Participate in mock recalls.
+ Provides technical support to operations by assisting in troubleshooting.
+ Ensure the quality of product and services by testing product, performing audits of product lines and placing defective products on hold.
+ Review CAPA (corrective action and preventive action) program for effectiveness to eliminate recurring non-conformances (food safety, customer complaints and first pass hold).
+ Perform other duties including but not limited to handling customer complaints, communicating holds and discrepancies with supervisors and other departments; completing various reports by reviewing Process Quality Records, maintaining hold logs, completing weekly and monthly reports.
+ Supervise the quality programs of the plant, including the laboratory and plant QC inspectors.
+ Review and update all the Quality Control Reports.
+ Develop and maintain documentation of all required quality tests and activities.
+ Oversee incoming inspection process and monitor its effectiveness.
+ Review Critical Control Points records and ensure that deviations of the CCPs are properly documented and filed.
+ Conduct employee training including GMPs, HACCP, Quality Systems, Foreign Matter, Food Defense and Food Safety.
+ Manage Nonconforming Product Control Program and maintain the On-hold inventory records.
+ Disposition of consumer returns.
+ Responsible for all food safety and quality procedures including sampling and analysis.
+ Provides coaching, education and training of management staff and plant employees for Quality Control/Assurance.
+ Assists the Quality and Operations Managers in managing third party, and federal audits and inspections.
+ Assist SQF Practitioner to lead the development, implementation, review, maintenance, and communication to ensure the integrity of the SQF as well as the food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan.
+ General supervising of Quality staff including completing weekly staff schedules, ensuring proper staffing coverage, coaching, training, disciplinary actions and performance review evaluations for quality associates.
+ Ability to work additional hours as needed.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and crouching. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools and controls. Lifting and moving of objects weighing at least 15 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be evaluated and considered to enable an individual to perform the essential job functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job will generally be performed in the manufacturing plant. When on the plant floor it is representative of a large, busy manufacturing operation. Noisy, active, objects on the floor, constant movement and traffic flow of motorized equipment. Hair net, beard net, assigned work uniform, protective eye wear and gloves are among the GMP required apparel that must be worn, if indicated, on the plant floor.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
+ High School education or equivalent is strongly preferred, 4-year degree in Food Science or related scientific field is strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience can be considered in lieu of 4-year degree
+ HACCP/HARPC and SQF Certification a plus.
+ 1 to 5 years of experience in a food or CPG manufacturing facility.
+ 2 years or more of supervisory experience in a quality role within a manufacturing setting.
+ 2 years or more of Quality Management Systems and Quality System Audit experience.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
+ Ability to read, speak, and write English is required.
+ Strong interpersonal skills are required to work with other departments to ensure food safety and quality standards are met.
+ Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in order to escalate any SQF deviations to SQFP and Plant Management. Including the use of reasonable judgment in receiving all incoming food products and determining when to reject contaminated product by following the standard operating procedures.
