Job Purpose:

To manage student placements and supervision for school-based work-integrated learning (WIL) (Teaching Experience) across all qualifications within the School of Education. To manage the attendance rule for qualification of teaching experience according to the IIE policy requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Building partnerships with schools to source and secure school placements for students on the identified campus/es.Discussions with principals/mentor teachers, visits to schools, telephonic and email communicationEstablish and maintain a rolling database of schools.Report to the campus/es School of Education (SOE) Programme Manager (PM).To manage student readiness for their Teaching Experience practical.To deliver the Teaching Experience module.To coordinate the Supervision of the Teaching Experience practical.Manage and co-ordinate Police Clearance and SACE registration.Placement of students in schools:
Consult placement forms from registered students at the start of the year and allocate students to schools.Communicate to students their final school.Track student eligibility to access Teaching Experience.Track school placements over the required years of the programme to ensure diversity in the school experience.All written communiques with schools done in consultation with the Campus SOE PM /VPA and Head of School Education.Collate the Information for the Mentor Teacher Information Pack Teaching Experience Supervisors.Source supervisors as per the Teaching Experience Supervisor’s Scope.Establish a database of supervisors for campus consideration. Schools Support.Ensure a professional and harmonious relationship with partnerSupport the campus/es in the organisation and conducting of the workshops May be required to assist the campus in other areas as identified by the Campus Principal / VPA / SOE PM.Minimum Requirements:
A minimum of a Ed. Honour’s degree orPostgraduate Diploma in Education (at NQF level 8)Experience as a Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate phase teacher is recommended.Experience in the coordination and management of student teachers at schools is advantageous.

 Key Competencies:

Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory andThe ability to provide student supportThe ability to be highly proficient in Excel.The ability to work in Office 365, including Outlook and Teams, and learn more about our digitalized academicThe ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolvingAbility to adhere to rules and strictly follow workDeadline-orientated and can work well underAbility to manage timeAbility to practice emotional intelligence and to work well within a team environment.
