1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant

Newton Primary School is currently looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team to help support a child with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has associated social communication and interaction difficulties and rigid behaviours. She also has sensory problems in relation to loud noise and tactile situation. She needs support with attention, focus, self-regulation and developing interactions.

You will need:

Effective communication skills with children, staff and parents. Knowledge and experience of supporting a child with Autism. The ability to Support with SEND Planning and EHCP targets - using advice from colleagues/outside agencies.

Your main responsibilities:

Working with the individual child under the direction of the teaching staff. Establish positive relationships with the pupil supported. Implement planned learning objectives/teaching programmes as agreed with the class teacher, adjusting activities according to the pupil’s response and her interests, to enhance her learning. Support the pupil with activities, including communication, interaction and motor skills. Promote the inclusion and acceptance of the child with special needs within the classroom. Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities including those highlighted in the child’s Educational and Health Care Plan, with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour. Monitor and record pupil activities as appropriate, writing records and reports as required. Attend review meetings as necessary to provide feedback on the pupil supported.

Salary: Grade 4 Contract: To operate whilst the child is at Newton Primary School (Reception in September).

Working Pattern: Term Time, 8:45am-12:15pm and Monday to Friday 1-2:30pm. During the transition of her starting school there may need to be some flexibility around working patterns.

Hours: 25 hours per week. 38 weeks per year.

Look Rounds: Thursday 4 July 4pm, Friday 5 July 11am.

Closing Date: Monday 8 July 9.15am.

Interviews: Friday 12 July.
