Teaching Assistant

1:1 Additional Needs Teaching Assistant Grade 4 (Term time)

Edleston Primary is a diverse one form entry school in Crewe. We are seeking to appoint an 
enthusiastic, experienced, positive and committed Additional Needs Teaching Assistant to join our 
happy and dynamic staff team, who can rise to the challenges of working with children with complex 
needs. The role involves providing 1:1 support for a pupil with an EHCP For SEMH and Cognition and 
Learning Needs in a busy KS2 classroom. The ideal applicants will have had prior experience in 
supporting pupils with special needs in a special or mainstream setting, and have a detailed knowledge 
of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2 and how it can be adapted for learners below age 
expectation.
Applicants who are excited about a new challenge, and who meet the essential criteria for this role, 
are warmly welcomed from both mainstream and special school settings. The successful candidate 
must demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and working in partnership with all stakeholders. 
Applicants must be able to demonstrate some experience of working with individuals with SEND.
You will be contracted to work 25 hours per week with a half an hour lunch break. As the post is linked 
to the child, please note that should the child leave the school, the post would also end.

• has experience in working 1:1 within a KS2 classroom setting 
• has the skills and knowledge to support a child with SEND needs - ASD/ADHD
• has an excellent awareness of how children learn and progress
• has an understanding and/or experience of de-escalation and engagement techniques to 
support challenging behaviour
• ensures children feel valued as unique individuals
• supports and helps to ensure lessons that children find enjoyable and fascinating
• is energetic, positive and has a good sense of humour
• can implement structured learning activities/ specific programmes for individuals and groups 
under the general supervision of the teacher
• has experience supporting neuro diverse children 
• has a caring and compassionate nature
• develops positive relationships with pupils to promote pupil progress and attainment
• is prepared to support children with intimate care
• establishes supportive and positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and staff
• has high expectations of themselves and of others, demonstrating professional conduct at all 
times and have the ability to contribute positively to an effective team
• works well with external agencies to ensure personalised provision is effective
• has experience of administrative work

Essential Qualifications
NVQ level 2 or above qualification - appropriate to the post (or equivalent).
GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language
Knowledge and compliance with policies and procedures relevant to child protection and health and 
safety;
Desirable Qualifications
Sensory Training
Positive handling training
ASD/ADHD training
Physiotherapy training
Essential Experience
Experience of working/caring with children with an EHCP or SEND on a one-to-one basis.
Experience of working with children with medical needs
Experience of working with children in KS2 
Supporting children with developing reading/phonics and maths skills
Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
Desirable Experience
Knowledge of classroom roles and responsibilities
First Aid/Paediatric First Aid Certificate
Recent training and experience of working with children with ASD/ADHD/Sensory needs
Administrative skills
Ability to make effective use of ICT
Experience of delivering SALT interventions eg WELCOMM
Experience of working with children with an EHCP
Ability to lead bespoke interventions to individuals and small groups
