Dow has an opportunity for aTax Specialistlocated inLake Jackson or Houston, Texas. The Tax Specialist will oversee and manage property tax processes to legally and effectively minimize property taxes. This includes accurately and timely filing property tax returns, complying with tax laws, managing tax payments within deadlines, and maintaining historical information databases for the company and its subsidiaries. Responsibilities: + Collect, reconcile, and analyze data for accuracy, situs, and taxability from various sources. Review and verify personal property, including inventory, railcars, machinery, equipment, and vehicles. Ensure accuracy and compliance with data requirements for exemptions. + Review assessment notices and identify variances for further review. Collaborate with tax professionals to protest excessive assessments and negotiate settlements. Gather documentation to support the company's position. + Ensure all tax bills are received, reviewed for accuracy, and entered for payment. Resolve issues with tax jurisdiction representatives and ensure timely payment to avoid penalties and interest. + Prepare property tax estimates for establishing accruals and standards. Provide estimates to cost accountants for budgeting and respond to internal client requests regarding tax liabilities. + Maintain and update property tax annual historical records/databases, including assessed values, taxes paid, tax rates, and tax savings. + Reconcile property tax accrual accounts quarterly, verify entries, create correction entries, monitor account balances, and make recommendations for accrual changes. + Manage the rebilling process for the office, including interpreting contracts, calculating bills, issuing invoices, and monitoring receipt of payments. Interface with Property Management staff, appraisal district personnel, and tax collectors to ensure accurate incorporation of real property changes and provide property tax proration data for land transactions. Qualifications: + A minimum of a bachelor’s degree OR relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking. + A minimum of 5 years of relevant indirect tax experience is required. + A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process. Preferred Qualifications: + High degree of accuracy and proficiency in numerical data and statistical information. + Working knowledge of SAP and in-depth knowledge of software applications including Excel and Access. + Ability to interact independently with various personnel, representatives from other companies, and governmental entities to provide/obtain complex information and resolve problems. Requires good human relations and communication skills. + The ability to analyze complex data and financial information is crucial. + Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare reports, present findings, and interact with colleagues. + Well-organized in managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate records.
