What you’ll do:Eaton’s Corporate Sector is currently seeking a Tax Specialist, State & Local to join our team. This position is based at our North American HQ in Beachwood, OH with hybrid work available.
Position Overview:
The Tax Specialist – State and Local is a dynamic role within the State and Local Tax (“SALT”) function of Eaton reporting to the Manager – State Tax Governance. The position’s primary purpose is to provide assistance in ensuring that Eaton and its US subsidiaries are fully compliant with US state and local tax laws and ASC 740 accounting.
Job Responsibilities:
• Prepare complex unitary and separate company state and local income and franchise tax returns, state modifications, and multistate apportionment.
• Prepare extension requests and quarterly estimated tax calculations while assuring that Eaton is utilizing appropriate payment methods.
• Prepare responses to various income and franchise tax document requests issued by state taxing authorities, taking responsibility for locating and compiling requested information and drafting written IDR responses.
• Assist Manager – State Tax Controversy with review and analysis of auditors’ reports and compiling documentation in support of audit requests and responses to auditor questions.
• Gather, reconcile, and analyze state apportionment source data, including investigation of significant changes and discrepancies.
• Preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provision computations and schedules including state effective tax rates, the SALT current provision, deferred taxes associated with tax attributes and timing differences, valuation allowance calculations and analysis, and SALT tax reserve analysis and calculations.
• Preparation of ‘return to provision’ adjustments and applicable journal entries.
• Prepare quarterly account reconciliations.
• Assist with resolution of income and franchise tax notices.
• Assist with state and local income tax research and monitoring of legislative developments.
• Develop a network of peers for the purpose of optimizing the flow of information within the tax department and to identify and execute process improvement initiatives, including implementation of new technology solutions and systems to streamline the various processes.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution required.
• 7 years of tax experience in a corporate state income tax environment or in a large public accounting firm with an emphasis in state income tax.
• Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Only candidates currently located within a 50 mile radius of Beachwood, OH will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
• Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
Preferred qualifications:
• CPA certificate
• Master’s degree in Tax or Accounting or a Juris Doctor degree.
Position Criteria:
• Fundamental understanding of and demonstrated experience and ability to apply applicable state income tax laws
• Highly proficient user of CorpTax or comparable tax preparation software.
• Experience with ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft applications, financial accounting systems (Oracle, SAP), and tax compliance programs.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage technology to streamline processes and evaluate data, including familiarity with data analytics and data wrangling tools and technology.
• Ability to perform research of state tax technical issues.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including basic supervisory/review skills.
• 10% travel required
