Tax Manager

The Tax Manager is a critical role responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the company's Mexican operations. This includes managing local, federal, and international tax matters, as well as direct (income tax) and indirect (VAT, excise taxes) tax obligations. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with Mexican tax laws and regulations, optimize the company's tax position, and minimize tax risks. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Mexican tax law, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Master's degree in Taxation preferred.

"Contador Público Certificado" (CPC) certification is highly desirable.

Fluency in both Spanish and English is required (written and spoken).

 

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax accounting, tax compliance, and tax planning, with a focus on Mexican tax law.

Experience in a multinational company or public accounting firm preferred.

Experience with international tax issues, including transfer pricing, is highly desirable.

Skills:

Technical Expertise:

In-depth knowledge of Mexican federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.

Strong understanding of Mexican GAAP and IFRS  as well as US GAAP

Familiarity with international tax principles and transfer pricing regulations.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to analyze complex tax issues and develop effective solutions.

Strong research skills.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Communication Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English.

Ability to communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals.

Software Proficiency:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Experience with tax preparation software 

Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

     1.Tax Compliance:

Manage the preparation and filing of all Mexican tax returns, including monthly, quarterly, and annual filings for ISR (Income Tax), IVA (VAT), IEPS (Excise Tax), and other local taxes.

Ensure timely and accurate submission of all tax returns and related documentation.

Stay up-to-date on changes to Mexican tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.

Implement and maintain tax compliance procedures and controls.

Manage the preparation and filing of informative tax returns (DIOT, etc.).

Oversee the calculation and payment of employee payroll taxes (ISR retenido por salarios).

       2.  Tax Planning:

Implement tax planning strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while complying with all applicable laws and regulations (Tax and related ones)

Identify opportunities for tax optimization and savings.

Advise management on the tax implications of business decisions.

Monitor and analyze changes in Mexican tax law to identify potential tax planning opportunities.

Lead the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.

Plan for the impact of international tax treaties on the company's operations.

      3. Tax Accounting & Reporting:

Manage the company's tax provision process, including the calculation of current and deferred tax liabilities.

Prepare tax-related financial statement disclosures in accordance with Mexican GAAP and IFRS (if applicable) and  US GAAP

Maintain accurate and complete tax records.

Reconcile tax accounts and resolve any discrepancies.

Support internal and external audits of the company's tax function.

      4. International Tax:

Manage the company's transfer pricing policies and documentation to ensure compliance with Mexican and international transfer pricing regulations.

Oversee the calculation and reporting of withholding taxes on payments to foreign entities.

Advise on the tax implications of cross-border transactions.

Monitor changes in international tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.

Manage the tax aspects of foreign investments and operations.

Ensure compliance with BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) initiatives.

     5. Tax Audits & Controversy:

Manage tax audits by Mexican tax authorities (SAT) and other government agencies.

Prepare responses to tax inquiries and information requests.

Identify and mitigate tax risks.

 

Other Responsibilities:

Participate in professional development activities to stay current on tax law changes.

Contribute to the development and implementation of tax policies and procedures.

Assist with other finance and accounting projects as needed.
