Tax Accountant
Description Position Title: Tax Accountant Location: Washington, DC Metro Area Pay: $83-93K, hybrid schedule Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Prepare tax trial balances and accounting adjustments to ensure compliance with tax accounting principles and fixed asset accounting standards. + Analyze lease agreements to identify and document proper tax treatment for lease incentives. + Review expenditures for accurate capitalization following current tax laws. + Maintain and update depreciation schedules. + Prepare federal and multi-state tax returns, including partnerships (Form 1065), trusts (Form 1041), and individual tax filings (Form 1040). + Complete other tax returns, such as Nonprofits (Form 990), S corporations (Form 1120S), and C Corporations (Form 1120). + File personal property tax returns across various jurisdictions, including DC, Maryland, and Virginia. + Prepare tax projections, extensions, and estimates for timely payment requests. + Conduct tax research and undertake special projects ensuring compliance with regulations. + Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience: + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. + 1–3 years of experience in public accounting or a combination of practical accounting experience and education. Required Skills and Abilities: + Strong foundational accounting skills with experience working trial balances and creating journal entries. + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. + Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. + Effective time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines. + Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a team environment. + Familiarity with CCH Tax products, such as Workpaper Manager or Engagement, and CCH Fixed Asset Software is preferred. + Experience in partnership and real estate tax accounting is a plus. + Knowledge of Yardi general ledger software is an advantage. + Prior experience with DC, Maryland, and Virginia Personal Property Tax Returns is a plus.
