Hatch is seeking to hire a strong Senior level tailings dewatering process engineer to work with our existing core team at the Mississauga office.  This role would suit a highly motivated professional with a very strong technical focus, who is interested in supporting the development of the tailings management practice and expanding the capability within the cluster of an existing team of specialists in tailings and mine waste management made of geotechnical, hydrotechnical, geoscientists, and process engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a link between the tailings management practice group with the Hatch process teams and clients for integrated tailings solutions in the North American market with a focus to increase Hatch’s existing clients base in Canada, USA and Mexico; Support on proposal preparation and manage all levels of tasks for scoping to basic engineering studies in the execution of tailings projects for surface disposal and underground backfill utilization at all available levels of dewatering; Support in the selection of tailings dewatering technology development related to tailings management projects with the preparation of trade-off studies and cost-effective solutions assessing best available dewatering technologies; Mentor junior staff and foster a continuous learning environment Review all technical designs prepared by junior/intermediate engineers

Qualifications and Experience:

Consulting or construction recognized experience in the tailings, processing, and mine waste sector with preferred post-graduate degree in mineral processing engineering, metallurgy, or mechanical engineering.

 

10 to 15 years’ experience in tailings dewatering, separation and pumping design for precious and base metals, battery materials, ferrous and non-ferrous; Able to guide and prepare tailings dewatering testing specifications for all flowsheets, lab results interpretation, and integration into designs; Able to independently create process equipment layout, process equipment lists along with specifications and operation range evaluation in general arrangement drawings with AutoCAD; Proven experience developing process design criteria, mass balances and process flowsheets for dewatering, backfilling as well as synergy between underground and surface disposal; Proven experience in tailings filters type selection and sizing, thickeners type selection and sizing, pipe and pump sizing, agitation processes (agitator selection for complex tailings), hydrocycloning, selection, adjusting and simulations, dewatering screens and other available technologies for dewatering processes; Proven experience in preparing and reviewing P&IDs specifically for tailings dewatering systems; Proven experience in preparing and reviewing mechanical equipment lists, MTOs, and CAPX and OPEX at all project levels. Good verbal and written English communication skills. Preferred bilingual proficiency in French and/or Spanish and/or Portuguese; Skills to work well in a team with a strong client focus; Highly proficient in MS Office suite of tools including: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project; Working knowledge of latest worldwide developments in the area of tailings management, as they relate to Global Tailings Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), and other country or international organizations. Ability to travel internationally for business with focus on North America (Canada, USA and Mexico) to support regional operations; and Valid passport preferably with international recognition and a driver’s license from a Canadian province.
