Systems Engineering Manager

Job Description:

The Systems Engineering Manager at Cambria is responsible for the Systems Engineering team's leadership, performance, and development. This is a hands-on managerial role where you will be actively involved in technical tasks while leading and mentoring a team of engineers. The role involves managing skill competency models, gap closure plans, and ensuring that all services are available and optimized to support the scaling of our manufacturing operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Hands-On Leadership: Actively participate in technical tasks and projects while leading, mentoring, and managing a team of 4 systems engineers.

People Management: Focus on the professional development and performance of your team members.

Team Coordination: Conduct daily stand-up meetings to track progress and address any roadblocks.

Work Planning: Plan and prioritize work across the team, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Project Participation: Engage in quarterly project planning meetings to align IT initiatives with company goals.

Infrastructure Management: Build, operate, and maintain scalable, highly available, and resilient infrastructure to support business operations.

On-Call Support: Participate in on-call rotations to ensure critical services remain available.

Performance Monitoring: Analyze metrics to create actionable monitors and alerts, ensuring optimal service performance.

Service Level Management: Collaborate with product teams to ensure that Service Level Objectives (SLOs) are met or exceeded.

Incident Management: Lead root cause analysis following incidents to prevent future occurrences.

Systems Lifecycle Management: Plan, implement, and manage the lifecycle of Cambria’s compute, storage, virtualization, and server operating systems.

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience:

5+ years experience as a hands-on manager or lead engineer. 

10+ years in a Systems Administrator/Systems Engineering role.

5+ years of experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware/AHV

Solid foundation in Linux administration and troubleshooting.

Experience with infrastructure as code (Ansible, Terraform).

Proven experience in Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban.

Experience with AWS technologies.

Technical Proficiency:

VMware, Nutanix NX Appliances, Nutanix AHV, Nutanix EKS.

AWS EKS, Ansible, Cohesity (Backup Software).

Pure Storage, Windows Server, Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux).

Active Directory, Okta, AWS, Terraform, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Identity Management.

AWS cloud technologies.

Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Self-Motivation: A motivated self-learner with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:  5+ years experience as a hands-on manager or lead engineer, 10+ years in a Systems Administrator/Systems Engineering role.

Managerial Responsibilities: Yes

Travel Requirements: Position requires local travel between Cambria locations

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to work in prolonged standing and/or sitting positions.
