Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
The primary role of the Enterprise Networks Systems Engineer (ENSE) is to provide technical expertise to support commercial objectives set by Field Sales and Commercial Marketing.
Key Responsibilities Reviewing technical specifications, developing optical system designs or component configurations, generating bills of material, coordinating with operations resources to resolve field issues or further define product performance, and providing technical information via letter, written reports, or presentations. It is the responsibility of the ENSE to support Sales and Commercial Marketing representatives on customer calls, when appropriate, and to address pertinent technical issues Understand individual product performance specifications, capabilities, & limitations with respect to market objectives, and to have a working knowledge of competitive offerings that serve in the same function. Other duties related to technical issues Understand network design and how individual components are integrated into a complete telecommunications network. The knowledge of current designs and technologies, predicted modifications and the transmission capabilities associated with each is necessary to provide customers with system solutions Research concepts and products pertinent to the designated end objective, evaluate and prioritize available options and to provide technical recommendations based upon relevant facts Instruct training courses for external customers, either remote using available studio resources or in person at a customer site. Prepare presentation, spreadsheets, graphs and reports as requested using appropriate skills and software Assist the team with special projects or needs as requested Manage confidential and proprietary information with discretion and sound judgment Manage all day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision, and support team members as necessary Experiences/Education - Required 1 year of experience in Telecommunications, specifically structured cabling and more specifically, fiber optic systems Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related technical field - Mechanical or Electrical preferred Knowledge of products used in passive optical cabling and how and where they are deployed Detail oriented with strong problem solving skills Ability to interface and communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively with all levels of personnel internal and external to Corning Ability to work in a high-profile position, handling details of a highly confidential and critical nature Work effectively as both an individual performer and a team player Ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently and effectively in a dynamic unstructured environment Ability to maintain composure and professional demeanor at all times Ability to listen, make wise decisions and act with little direction Ability to organize and coordinate one’s work schedule and duties Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Experiences/Education - Desired Knowledge of Corning Optical Cable’s passive optical cabling products and how and where they are deployed in a local area network Knowledge of Optical Fiber Theory Understand the commercial workings of a distribution market from the standpoint of a manufacturer Knowledge of data center communications processing equipment, pathways, and spaces Technical writing ability, with emphasis on effective presentation of detailed concepts Proactive leader willing to take on additional responsibilities with a proven ability to influence outcomes Not fearful of acting with minimum planning and ability to make good decisions, combining analysis, wisdom, experience, and logic to solve complex problems effectively. The range for this position is $83,839.00 - $115,279.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
