Position Summary:
A mid-level role THAT encompasses all the expectations from the prior tier and includes being responsible for designing and implementing IT infrastructure solutions. Systems Engineer is proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement, including automation, delegation, or elimination of inefficiencies, and introducing innovative solutions to address uncovered gaps in the infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Server Management: Optimize the lifecycle management and support, as well as manage Active Directory environmental elements, including group policy management.
Azure and AWS Administration: Deploy, configure, and manage cloud resources, focusing on IaaS and PaaS solutions.
Configuration Automation: Automate deployments using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell.
Configuration Management: Use SCCM or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager for advanced deployments and updates.
Virtualization Management: Manage VMware environments, including performance tuning and resource optimization. Lead efforts to identify opportunities for improving virtualization solutions.
Data Center management: Lead efforts to maintain and identify opportunities to improve on-prem and virtual datacenters, including migrations.
Networking: Lead efforts to deploy, manage and troubleshoot network devices and various services (e.g. VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls).
Networking: Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
Monitoring & Optimization: Enhance monitoring frameworks using SolarWinds, Dynatrace or similar tools for capacity planning.
Security & Compliance: Collaborate with security teams to ensure only secure and compliant solutions are deployed.
Storage Management: Administer shared storage solutions, such as SAN or vSAN environments.
Backup & Disaster Recovery: Lead data recovery operations and ensure alignment with business continuity plans. Identify new opportunities for improving backup and restore capabilities.
Project management: Manage small-to-medium projects, including planning, coordinating resources, and ensuring successful implementation while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.
Relationship management: Manage relationships with external vendors and partners.
Documentation & Training: Develop detailed documentation for systems and processes; mentor Tier I engineers.
Keep the lights on: All roles are expected to perform key maintenance activities in which to continue business operations.
Education, Experience & Knowledge:
Minimum 4 year Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience
3-5 years relevant and progressive professional experience
Subject matter expert with deep understanding in 1-2 critical infrastructure services.
Advanced understanding of Microsoft Azure and AWS services, including automation and cost management.
Proficiency in scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools.
Experience in datacenter migration and optimization.
Requires participating in a rotational schedule for off-hours system support.
Some tasks may require completion during scheduled maintenance windows outside of regular business hours.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days onsite at the office and two days remote work each week

Must be able to operate a computer and other devices
Close vision and ability to adjust focus, such as required to read a computer screen
