Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

This is us, your new colleagues

Do you want to be part of Volvo Group’s exciting journey towards simulation-driven development? As Area Lead for Product Simulation, you will play an important part in enabling our R&D organization to evolve in virtual testing and promote simulation-driven product development.

Product Simulation is a newly founded department within the Vehicle Software Factory, with the purpose to develop and lead development of solutions for complete vehicle simulation and virtual development. We develop an ecosystem of tools used for virtual testing of software as well as features on complete vehicle level. As a part of the Vehicle Software Factory, we want to be an important part of the software development process by providing a complete vehicle virtual test environment during all stages from single function testing and evaluation to complete vehicle software integration and verification. We also support all parts of Volvo Group with solutions for system simulation and complete vehicle simulation.

About the role

As the Area Lead for Product Simulation, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and prioritizing the development work in the Product Simulation stream. You will be the link between the product owners and be representing the Product Simulation teams in the VSF Product Management Team.  You understand the bigger picture and business needs for complete vehicle simulation environments and virtual SW verification.  By that, you can motivate support from others as well as lead the teams within Product Simulation to ensure that the focus is on solving the most important problems and challenges to succeed in our mission.

In this role you will lead the development and secure the right architecture to build an ecosystem of system simulations supporting efficient development, valid and trusted simulations and a clear ownership capability for our product owners. You will own the roadmap for the area of Product Simulation and take the lead in finding the right way to build a platform that serves the needs of many teams and is scalable and adaptable to future needs. With a deep technical understanding, you will be able to chart the path to the solution. You will break down and plan the work together with the product owners of the teams. You will follow-up execution of Epics in line with portfolio directives and business priorities to maximize efficiency and productivity.

As Area Lead of the Product Simulation team, you will also identify and lead development initiatives within the system simulation area. The team has a leading and coordinating role for developing system simulation within the Volvo Group.

Who are you?

With a problem-solving mindset and sharp analytical skills, you turn challenges into opportunities and motivate those around you. Your excellent communication skills help you build strong relationships and drive collaboration.

To succeed in this role, you need technical expertise in simulations, model integration, and computational programming, along with a solid understanding of virtual verification needs. You should excel at managing system simulation tools while balancing scope, time, cost, quality, and delivery, and have a deep understanding of IT architecture related to simulation applications. Strong communication, trust-building, and business literacy, including cost/benefit analysis, are essential.

As an Area Lead, you’ll prioritize customer needs, drive development, and turn opportunities into value. Collaboration, agile thinking, and adaptability are key. You should be passionate about lifelong learning and excel in managing both the performance and transformation aspects of the role.

In addition, you have:
•    A master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering mathematics, computer science, or engineering physics.
•    A minimum of 10 years' experience within the simulation area is required, preferably working with Volvo in-house applications GSP, VSIM, or other system simulation platforms.
•    Rigid understanding of software development and software architecture, to understand the needs of virtual integration and virtual testing.
•    Experience in working with Roadmap and strategy development within the system simulation area and the creation of multidomain simulation environments
•    Experience in the tools MATLAB/Simulink, and Python.
•    Model integration workflow and FMI standards experience.
