Job Title: System Process Engineer
Job Description

This position will focus on engineering and operations of a commercial scale system in Fairfield, OH, enabling the recovery of critical minerals using proprietary electro-extraction technology. The role involves bridging the gap between engineering headquarters and commercial operations to safely accelerate technology scale-up from lab to field. Clear communication with a broad audience is essential to filter critical information between engineering, plant operations, and external stakeholders. The role requires close collaboration with engineers, operators, plant management, external suppliers, EPCs, and consultants to maintain safe and effective plant equipment commissioning and operation. This position offers a unique opportunity for broad impact from the lab to new equipment.

ResponsibilitiesOversee daily plant operations and work with the plant manager to troubleshoot and solve issues.Act as the go-to person for equipment process issues.Oversee the operation and maintenance of control systems.Troubleshoot PLC hardware and instrumentation issues.Develop control scheme changes to assist with control systems integration during capital project installation.Collaborate with process engineers on needs and design.Manage purchasing and receiving of equipment.Work with vendors to establish and maintain internal standards.Lead preventative maintenance and recommend solutions.Monitor system performance trends and recognize failure patterns using data.Inform continuous improvement and recommend future plant design changes.Collaborate with EHS to maintain safe procedures in the lab and on the plant floor.Assist in managing capital projects to deliver results within budget and schedule.Design and improve systems for data collection and processing, and inform best practices for monitoring system health.Demonstrate understanding of established manufacturing processes and equipment.Assist in the design, development, and commissioning of chemical processing equipment and instrumentation based on R&D optimizations.Demonstrate safety leadership, particularly with chemical operations.Implement environment improvement initiatives related to emissions, pollutants, effluent control, and neutralization of caustics/acids.Manage EPCs, sub-contractors, vendors, and other contributors to ensure contract liabilities, regulatory compliance, and safety quality standards are met.Develop test validation protocols to assess the efficacy of new processes, equipment, and products.Establish and document process methods, manuals, and training materials.Review and develop P&IDs, PFDs, functional specifications, SOPs, and commissioning plans.Lead or participate in safety reviews such as PHA & HAZOP.Support new plant start-up activities including FATs, check-outs, PSSRs, and commissioning.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or another engineering discipline.5+ years of experience as a process engineer or automation engineer in a chemical manufacturing environment.Basic understanding of chemistry or experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.Automation experience with PLCs.Experience troubleshooting equipment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with Ladder Logic.Experience with electrolysis, H2 production, and chlor-alkali processes.Work Environment

The facility is a proof-of-concept manufacturing environment with about 15 employees. It is a clean environment requiring individuals to be out on the floor the majority of the time. The position is based in Fairfield, OH, with hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $57.69
