Position Title: System Engineer
Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 Hours/ Week
Summary of Duties: Conduct implementation/configuration of protection relays on protection schemes for power transmission and distribution systems and power generators. Design Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures & testing environments for customer projects. Execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) & Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection relays in customer site. Develop new application solutions with IEC61850 or other communication protocols relevant in the energy automation field. Conduct the development of protection schemes, automatic transfer schemes and logic diagrams based on technical drawings. Interact and support customers, including trouble shooting and commissioning support, provide technical back-office support for the sales/proposal organization. Up to 75% domestic travel required.
Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered, as a System Engineer, or in an acceptable alternate occupation. The position requires experience with the following: experience in the protection engineering field; applied knowledge of the power transmission and distribution protection schemes configuration and testing, such as: Busbar protection using Siemens relay 7SS85, transformer differential protection using Siemens 7UT85/86 for two or three windings, restricted earth fault protection, power generator protection for small size using Siemens relay 7UM85, breaker failure protection application for single bus and double bus schemes, Capacitor Bank protection application by using Siemens 7SJ85 for medium bank size, medium voltage Switchgear protection schemes including design of automatic transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes; experience with these products and associated software packages: Siemens Digsi-5 (Siprotec 5), Siemens Digsi-4 (Siprotec 4), GE UR series, SEL ACSELERATOR or ABB relay/automation products and associated software; experience with Omicron products and software to create the test routines such as: Omicron IED Scout, Omicron Test Universe, and Omicron 156/256/356; experience developing protection schemes and logic diagrams based on technical drawings; experience configurating the communication protocols in the relays such as IEC61850, DNP, and Modbus; experience on functional testing relay protection panels; knowledge on ANSI/IEC standards, as well as drafting abilities by using Microsoft Visio.
