Switchboard Operator - Part Time

Position Purpose:

The Communications Clerk - Switchboard Operator is responsible for operating the switchboard, offering the best possible service to the public, physicians, and colleagues of the hospital.

What You Will Do:

Answers phone and directs calls to proper location in a courteous and timely manner using approved scripting.

Operates the Spok IntelliDesk computer software for paging, looking up directory information, paging out emergency groups, logging calls, etc.

Operates Zetron Paging System to program, exchange, or issue pagers.

Inputs call lists in the computer and makes necessary changes. Coordinates on-call schedules ensuring they are up-to-date and distributed to the necessary departments.

Answers calls after hours for several physician offices, Hospice, Mercy Home Care, etc.

Has knowledge of all codes and emergency procedures and uses approved communication for notifying necessary colleagues by pager or cell phone, telephone, radio or P.A. System.

Responds to several different alarm systems and notified Security, Nursing Supervisor and other colleagues as needed.

Responsible for sending out weather alerts or other emergency mass notification messages from Alertus.

Maintains radio contact with security and engineering.

Monitors security cameras and notifies security, nursing supervisor, or other personnel as needed.

Assigns room numbers to patient mail for distribution and forwards mail to discharged patients that have been discharged.

Communicates to all Colleagues Downtime or System Slowdown notifications from TIS Resolution Center.

Supplies Directory Information to patients and staff using the Internet Yellow Pages and other websites.

HOURS:
Weekdays/Weekends/Holidays 6:00am-2:00pm
Work every other weekend and every other holiday
Work four days each week of the two week pay period
Must be able to fill in on all other shifts as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

Education [formal]:

High school diploma or equivalent

Completion of Business College course work preferred

Required working knowledge of computer operations.

Experience with switchboard operations is preferred.

Keyboarding experience is preferred.
