Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Switchboard Operator, Per Diem - Mineola.

In this role, the successful candidate answers all incoming calls to the hospital's main telephone number and routes them appropriately throughout the organization. Provides emergency notification via paging system or overhead speaker system as necessary dependent upon nature of situation.

Job Responsibilities:

Operates a telecommunications console along with various peripheral pieces of communications equipment including but not limited to a personal computer. Answers all calls politely and in a timely manner. Connects callers to desired location.Performs other duties as assigned.Observes departmental and hospital policies concerning attendance, professional conduct, appearance. Attends in services.Responds to requests for patient information. Responds to assist with requests for patient information/location as appropriate. Assists at Information Desk to access medical staff/patient contact information.Responds immediately to all emergency calls, patient codes, life safety alarms etc. and urgently communicates situation to appropriate parties both within and outside. Initiates appropriate response for the specific situation. Follows emergency policies and procedures. Documents action as required.Provides direction to visitors and provides volunteers with support as needed.Handles request to page and locate hospital staff. Operates paging console to initiate staff pages as required. Maintains daily on call list for services. Identifies phone pager numbers as requested. Pages as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School or GED. 1-2 years Experience as a receptionist/customer service in a high pace environment. Good communication both oral and written, organization, detail oriented, multi task and customer service skills. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to respond to emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years Experience in hospital switchboard systems and emergency procedures.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $22.04 - $22.48 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
