About the Role

As a Sustainability Communications and Engagement Lead in the Communications function, your main focus is to bring to life the storytelling around H&M’s Sustainability strategy in Region Americas. Working collaboratively with the PR/Communications team, the Sustainability Lead will support H&M in demonstrating the importance of our commitment to circularity through a range of internal and external communications touchpoints including brand activations, partnerships, and internal trainings, adapting global sustainability strategies to local market context.

This hybrid role reports into our Regional Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager and is based out of the New York City Support Office.

 

 

Job Description

A Day in the Life

Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities*

Together with the Sustainability Manager, develop and implement a communications strategy and external stakeholder engagement plan for H&Ms sustainability efforts in the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador.Build proactive plan to strengthen H&M’s position as an industry leader in circularity and raise visibility and awareness among key internal and external stakeholders including press, trade associations, mission-driven organizations, influencers, and colleagues. In partnership with corporate communications, adapt narratives on global sustainability programs to the local market context and approach sustainability efforts as a commercial tool to drive progress across the businessWork cross-functionally to educate and inspire teams, providing input on how to add value and connect sustainability efforts to our brand directionImplement external stakeholder engagement plan to promote H&M’s sustainability efforts, including identifying relevant industry initiatives and mission-driven partnerships, attending trade association meetings and local conferences; act as external spokesperson for relevant news,  panels, collections, etcCollaborate with Learning & Development department to create and adapt relevant onboarding and ongoing training/upskilling materials around sustainabilityManage Region Americas philanthropic strategy, overseeing the company’s donations and related partnershipsIdentify innovative market activities to drive environmental and social sustainability effortsDraft and edit cross-functional materials used to promote H&M’s sustainability efforts to external stakeholders and inform internal teams regarding impactful sustainability topics through newsletters, messaging documents, and briefing presentationsPartner with Global Sustainability Engagement and Public Affairs teams to support global programs and initiativesPartner with PR and Marketing teams on brand activations and sustainability related events, and Brand Performance TrackingPartner closely with the Inclusion and Diversity team and serve as an advisor on H&M Americas social impact workAbility to travel domestically and internationally 10% of the time

Qualifications

Who You Are:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, sustainability, or related fieldBilingual; fluent in English and Spanish5-8 years of experience in developing and managing a similar initiativePassion for sustainability and social impact workSolid knowledge of communications discipline, media platforms, influencers, etc.Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretionStrong communication and presentation skills

Compensation: salary range is $98,957-$111,326 annually**
