DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees and coordinates general administrative and technical support for boundary, topographic and construction control surveying projects and performs specialized surveying activities under the supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
The Survey Project Technician III duties will include but are not limited to:
+ Instructs field and office personnel in performing surveying related activities.
+ Perform deed research and analysis.
+ Prepares working sketches from deeds and other sources.
+ Interpret survey crew field notes.
+ Analyze and process various types of field data.
+ Prepare survey maps, plats, CAD drawings and legal descriptions.
+ Prepare base topographic drawings and surface models for use in engineering work.
+ Reviews survey work produced by various sources.
+ Handles inquiries from public and staff personnel.
+ Performs quality control checks.
+ Prepares and updates various reports, records, and files.
+ Secures maps, plans and other information for survey projects.
+ Operates CAD and GIS software.
+ Reads and interprets survey maps and construction plans.
+ Uses a variety of surveying software and related hardware.
+ Collects, prepares, digitizes, and codes spatial data into GIS format.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Designing or closely related field such as surveying.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of related experience, such as engineering, drafting, surveying, and/or designing are required.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Substitution: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Design or a closely related field may be substituted for the education and two years of the experience requirement.

PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to those who have either an education or experience in land surveying. Current Surveyor In Training (SIT) or Certified Survey Technician a plus.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
