Survey Party Chief

The Party Chief oversees the operations of a survey party across multiple job sites, delivering advanced technical expertise and guidance to project management for heavy civil projects. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Party Chief on Heavy Highway and Bridge Projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

- Employ survey equipment and supervise team members to locate, assess, and investigate job sites, including pinpointing landmarks, physical features, and notable terrain alterations impacting the survey.

- Direct survey activities, assess task priorities, and orchestrate work efforts.

- Monitor the quality of survey work, perform essential field calculations based on completed tasks.

- Operate and train others on survey instruments and equipment.

- Verify the precision of angles, distances, and data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

- Document and depict work performed in clear, organized notes.

- Collaborate with computer operators, contributing expertise during final computations.

- Guarantee that the final plat or map accurately reflects the field survey.

- Handle administrative tasks such as completing timesheets, preparing vehicle mileage reports, tracking expenses, and recording related costs.

- Maintain an orderly workspace while managing several projects concurrently.

- Draft reports, business correspondence, and project documentation.

- Communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings with clients, customers, and team members.

- Interpret safety guidelines, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.

- Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Party Chief on heavy highway and bridge projects.

- Proficient in verbal and written English communication.

- Skilled in applying basic algebra, geometry, and Construction Math, including rate, ratio, percentage calculations, and interpreting bar graphs.

- Valid driver’s license for occasional travel as required.

- Capable of identifying issues, gathering data, analyzing facts, and forming sound conclusions.

- Able to comprehend a wide range of technical instructions, whether mathematical or diagrammatic, and manage both abstract and concrete variables.

- Moderate physical stamina for somewhat demanding administrative tasks.

- Comfortable with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind).

- Ability to navigate minor obstacles on foot at construction sites.

- Sufficient manual dexterity to handle tools and perform detailed tasks with fingers.
