Summary:
The surgical technologist works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures and to ensure that operating room equipment functions properly. A surgical technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The surgical technologist assists in patient care and preparation of the surgical patient by performance of routine and delegated duties. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate patient care and be accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

2. Knows the operation of all sterilizing equipment.
3. Works under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure a safe environment to maximize patient safety.
4. Possesses knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.
5. Possesses knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgical instruments.
6. Prepares the sterile setup for the appropriate procedure and anticipate the needs of the surgeons.
7. Knows and assists with proper care, maintenance, and replacement of surgical instruments.
8. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.
9. Initiates appropriate action in crisis and/or emergency situations.
10. Provides appropriate patient care under direct supervision of Registered Nurse and/or Physician.
11. Effectively communicates with surgical team members regarding changes to equipment/products, instruments, new technology, surgeon preferences, staffing, and scheduling.
12. Promotes and shares knowledge in their area of expertise. Promotes an environment of safety and quality. Communicates concerns appropriately and timely.
13. Updates and approves preference cards as needed.
14. Participates in policy and procedure development and updates as requested.
15. Attends and/or completes required education.
16. Works with facility educator and staff to maintain competencies.
17. Works in collaboration with the team and materials management to achieve correct par levels and monitors outdates closely.
Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.
