Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and according to established nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures, assists with surgical procedures as a scrubbed member of the surgical team. Prepares instruments and maintains a clean and safe surgical environment. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Displays a high regard for human life and respects the dignity, uniqueness, worth and rights of each individual.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology training program. For new graduates after July 2, 2009 – Certified Surgical Technologist Credentials, administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), must be obtained within 12 months after graduation. All technicians must accumulated 15 hours of AST approved Continuing Education related to Surgical Technology per calendar year (July 1 through June 30). Obtains and maintains current certifications (Heartsaver CPR) as required in specialty areas (Critical Care). 1-3 years related experience in purchasing/materials process preferred. Experience with joint and/or spine procedures preferred.
