Surgery & Procedural Services Coordinator I, Per Diem, Days, 8hours

Summary

SUMMARY: Performs the role of administrative patient liaison in preparation for surgery; educates and prepares patients and families for the surgical or procedural experience.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 

1.  Schedules surgical and procedures as directed by the surgical team.

2.  Supports any continuity of care efforts with the patient’s health plan payor.

3.  Instructs patients in preparations for scheduled services. 

4.  Maintains and coordinates required outpatient information including the selected service line, patient charts and schedules with other departments. 

5.  Coordinates any necessary clinical documentation needed for the continuum of care; reviews surgical orders and medical records, including the consent documentation, for completeness and accuracy for all surgical procedures; obtains and reviews ICD-10 and CPT codes for the planned surgical procedure. 

6.  Assists patient with the completion of an Advanced Directive and/or DNR if requested by the patient and/or surgical team. 

7.  Assists with reporting and analysis for departmental outcomes including data collection, analysis and recommendations. 

8.  Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education: Graduation from a certified/accredited medical assistant school.

Required Experience: One year in a surgical or procedural outpatient setting; experience in insurance verification and prior authorization.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Medical Assistant certification as issued by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Center for Competency, Testing/Multi-skilled Medical Certification Institute (NCCT/MMCI), BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Additional Information

Note: Working collaboratively with other members of the Specialty Team and the Surgical Coordinator Services. Previous Medical Assistant experience in Specialty Services required. Strong teamwork environment.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
