We are currently hiring a Surface Maintenance Supervisor to join the team at our Underground Salt Mine in Goderich, Ontario.
Compass Minerals’ Goderich Salt Mine, located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron, is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away, to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics, detergents, disinfectants and other important products. Goderichis named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
How will you contribute to the team?
The Surface Maintenance Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) Supervisor reports directly to the Surface Maintenance Superintendent. It is a unique position responsible for establishing and auditing appropriate maintenance systems to ensure the reliable operation and statutory compliance of all surface fix plant, mobile, and hoist equipment. The QA/QC supervisor will create and audit current model work orders, operating procedures, and work order work instructions for critical jobs, including capital projects. The QA/QC supervisor will be in the field during critical jobs to ensure quality work is being performed and all steps are being followed. The QA/QC supervisor will help update the equipment part list deficiencies and cover shift supervisor vacation throughout the year. This role will also manage and oversee the RFID tracking system for underground employees and equipment.
Ensures that all personnel are aware and comply with the company’s policies, procedures and standards for work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines.Complete pre-shift and post-shift communication to relay critical information to the relieving supervisor.Manage multiple capital projects, ensuring that critical path and budget goals are met.Oversee the preparation of appropriate capital requests, including well-developed and technically correct scope, engineering design, project costs, project schedule and operational and financial analysis.Develop and help to manage capital project engineering and construction contracts.Ensure that the projects are designed, specified, purchased and installed correctly and safely.Implement construction/installation strategies that coordinate with the mine production plan.Ensure that the finished capital project meets the requirements of all project stakeholders, including all of the requirements of the production facility in which it is installed.Establish and/or work with the Management of Change (MOC) processes and effective commissioning processes.Provide technical expertise and leadership for the department, review planned work and results, and drive productivity improvement initiatives.Spare coverage for Shift Surface Maintenance Supervisor including vacation and illness coverage.Create and review mechanical and electrical work orders.Oversee critical jobs in the field.Create and audit model work orders.Create and update operating procedures (OPs).Review and update critical equipment part lists in JD Edwards E1.Maintain Arista flow.Manage employee engagement, concerns, suggestions, complaints and grievances.Conduct business operations in compliance with the provisions set out under the Collective Agreement.Perform other related duties as required.Explore the potential of being part of something Clearly Essential
