Responsibilities
POSITION DUTIES:
1. Serves as a Supervisory Social Worker (Clinical), in Behavioral Health (BH), independently plans and carries out assigned duties in accordance with general psychological theories, techniques and professional practice standards. Work will conform to the US Army, Joint Commission (JC) and MEDCOM standards, as well as to the ethical principles of the National Association of Social Workers, the standards for practice of clinical social worker and state licensure requirements. Functions as the authoritative source of information for the specialty of Social Work, and behavioral health. Knowledgeable of all new material related to specialization. Provides guidance to the hospital commander regarding policy in Social Work and BH issues, psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels. Coordinates with a variety of organizations to collaborate and assist with the multidisciplinary treatment of patients. These contacts may include, but are not limited to social work, nursing, the community counseling center, the exceptional family member program, command, and legal or other community organizations. Interacts with military commanders and must be able to provide extensive knowledge of Soldiering and the deployment missions. Screen and interview patients, and perform bio-psychosocial evaluations, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling. Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem. Provide timely and succinct feedback to other medical providers and Soldier’s commander when appropriate regarding consultations findings and recommendations. Incumbent makes behavioral health diagnoses as appropriate in accordance with DSM-IV-TR criteria, or other, more current, accepted standards. Provides individual and group therapy, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy. Assesses and provides crisis intervention for Soldiers. Reviews and approves the appropriate modality of each patient. Participates with other professional staff in providing emergency behavioral health services on a scheduled, rotating, and on-call basis to patients during normal duty hours to include screening patients for appropriateness of psychiatric hospitalizations. The incumbent maintains full professional responsibility and individual accountability for professional decisions and actions. Incumbent’s findings, conclusions and recommendations are accepted as being professionally sound by colleagues and organization superiors.
2. Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in patient’s medical record in no more than 72 hours after the patient is seen.
3. Evaluates training opportunities, and professional development activities. Formulate behavioral health interventions and assist with implementation and monitoring of treatment plans. Provide focused follow ups, including relapse – prevention education. Triage and referral of patients to Specialty Behavioral Health Care when appropriate. Administratively, functions as an interdisciplinary team member. Provide on-going consultation services for a sub-set of patients who require on-going monitoring and follow-up (i.e., continuity consultations) with BHCMs where appropriate. Uses objective and measurable outcomes to evaluate treatment effectiveness and make adjustments if appropriate for increased compliance and efficacy. Work as an inter-disciplinary team member to develop specific clinical pathways or best practice programs for targeted patient groups such as patients with acute stress symptoms and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
4. Supervises assigned professional and paraprofessional employees, military personnel, federal civilian employees, and provides technical oversight to contract employees assigned to the Clinic. Plans and organizes work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts long and short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees; evaluates work performance of subordinates; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters; Interview candidates for position in the unit; recommend appointment, promotion, or other personnel actions; Hear and resolve complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to higher level supervisor; effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other actions in more serious cases; identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training; find ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed, develop performance standards. Accomplishes reviews for improvement of performance to ensure the most effective and efficient operation. Instructs on new and existing policies and procedures and assists in interpreting and applying regulatory guidance. Tracts expenditures, manages the budget, and accounts for all Service equipment. Assures military personnel are in compliance with Company directives and rosters.

Must possess and maintain current licensure in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
2. This position requires credentialing. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to meet credentialing requirements.
3. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
4. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, before they come on, through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Certifying organization varies on location. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
5. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
6. Requires occasional travel up to 5% TDY.
7. Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
8. This maybe an inclement weather position. The incumbent may be expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
