Supervisor I Health Billing

Overview Leads, directs, and supervises assigned personnel. Provides training to staff, audits claim billing, and ensures compliance with set guidelines. Composes and types a variety of correspondence, forms, logs, and reports; takes and transcribes minutes of official meetings, and provides related clerical support for assigned department/program. Processes requests for information as received. Makes any necessary claim corrections for adjudication of a clean claim. Utilizes the current EHR system for looking up claims, correcting registration, and checking payment status. Prepares and maintains work queues, monitors productivity, and conducts training for assigned staff. Notifies supervisor when errors are detected and refers work back to registration, coding, or biller for correction. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two (2) years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university; or three (3) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT An additional five (5) years of experience in a related field. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Accounting software, Database software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Credential of Certified Professional Biller (CPB) preferred, or any credential in medical coding from a recognized nationally accredited agency, i.e. American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Knowledge of current ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines and Medical Terminology. Good understanding of third party insurance requirements and billing guidelines. Familiarity with CMS UB04 and 1500 billing forms. Knowledge of electronic health records recommended. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to correct/adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
