Supervisor- Core Lab (Evening Shift)
Under the supervision of a licensed Director or Manager-Clinical Lab, the Supervisor-Clinical Lab is responsible for all technical work in the laboratory section and for the supervision of the section in the absence of the Manager-Clinical Lab or Director. The Supervisor-Clinical Lab oversees the work of the assigned testing personnel. The Supervisor-Clinical Lab helps maintain a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department. Reviews publications to seek out new procedures that would be beneficial to the department and works with the Director or Manager-Clinical Lab to validate and implement new procedures. Employee must meet the qualifications as defined in CLIA requirements 42 CFR Part 493 for one or more of the following roles based on education, experience and responsibilities, performed by specific incumbent, within the job: Technical Consultant, Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor and/or Testing personnel. Department will designate and maintain records for individual specific qualifications. Job Responsibilities: Supervises and accurately performs and interprets all laboratory tests (routine and specialized) in an assigned area of the laboratory. Assists the Director or Manager-Clinical Lab with supervisory duties as assigned Resolves advanced problems and monitors accuracy of testing procedures and tests performed. Ensures that all section employees are knowledgeable and proficient in their technical duties. Promotes patient safety and reports any issues to the Director, Manager-Clinical Lab, or Laboratory Administration in a timely manner. Ensures that appropriate actions are taken concerning problem resolution, follow-up, and documentation. Assists the Director or Manager-Clinical Lab in maintaining QC and Quality Program records to meet standards/requirements of hospital and licensing/accrediting agencies. Reviews and resolves problems with QC. Reviews daily worksheets and result reports and documents discrepancies. Designs and implements QC procedures under guidance. Assists in the development of Quality Program monitors and conducts data collection as assigned. Analyzes Quality Program data. Assists Quality Specialist in the development and implementation of interdepartmental monitors. Ensures compliance with all standards/requirements of hospital and licensing/accrediting agencies. Contributes to the goals and objectives of respective section. These goals and objectives are defined for each section and are utilized in the performance evaluation Manages troubleshooting and preventive maintenance procedures. Demonstrates advanced troubleshooting skills. Acts as liaison with vendor/manufacturer in problem situations. Reviews preventive maintenance and instrument calibration records. Establishes maintenance procedures and schedules. Orientation, Training and Procedures responsibilities include: Establishing and maintaining a training program and manual. Writing and maintaining current procedure manuals as assigned. Ensuring that new personnel, students, trainees and residents are trained/managed properly. Maintaining section competency assessment program. Ensuring that all changes in procedures are effectively communicated. Assists in evaluating and testing new procedures and/or instrumentation and establishing maintenance protocols. Researches, develops, evaluates, and recommends implementation of new testing procedures/methods within the assigned section. Evaluates method validation data and coordinates implementation once new procedures are approved. Recommends approval of new procedures and instrumentation. Assists in scheduling of workflow to ensure adequate coverage in the lab at all times. Assists the Director or Manager-Clinical Lab in daily operations. Helps develop work/assignment schedules, vacation/holiday schedules with input/direction from supervisory personnel. Evaluates daily workload and makes appropriate adjustments of work/assignment schedules. Inventories, receives and stores supplies as defined in each laboratory section. Inventories reagents and supplies in a manner to ensure continuity of laboratory operations. Orders supplies as required and receives and stores reagents and supplies as required. Participates in continuing education as defined in the Department of Pathology’s Continuing Education (CE) Document. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor’s degree or completion of medical technology program or equivalent in concordance with current federal and state regulations required Minimum Experience: Six (6) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent position. Two(2) years of experience in the laboratory discipline the incumbent will supervise. Documented work experience within the last five (5) years in administrative and quality processes such as method validation, managing quality control, non-conforming event management, auditing, writing standard operating procedures, inventory management and ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., CAP, TJC). Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law: Licensure in the state of Tennessee as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor-General or as a categorical supervisor in assigned laboratory discipline or eligible, required If eligible, incumbent must obtain supervisor license within 6 months of hire.Eligibility requirements will be in compliance with current State of Tennessee, Division of Health Related Boards Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only: Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP, or AMT preferred Specialist Certification in assigned area by recognized accrediting body such as ASCP preferred Position is assigned to Evening Shift Core Lab. Position will normally work 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Recent generalist experience, hematology or chemistry experience is desired. Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
