The Supervisor, Public Safety-Safety Net Hospital is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff within a Level 1 Trauma Safety-Net hospital. Serves as a working supervisor for a shift of security officers involved in patrolling and checking the hospital buildings and facilities.

Your every day

Supervision:

Supervises employees including planning, scheduling, organizing, and directing work, training personnel, and recommending applicants for employment or for discipline, termination, or retention. Also performs new employee shift orientation, competency assessment, performance evaluation, and handling of personnel matters as delegated/designated.Assigns placement of officers and monitors compliance.Maintains high visibility with trauma, behavioral health unit(s), exterior, interior, and emergency room patrol.Ensures all shift supervisory duties are completed error free and on-time. Supervises the shift in accordance with department policies and procedures to provide quality security services.Maintains employee accountability with all hospital policies and procedures. Encourages participation from employees in the ongoing delivery of care/services and maintains high morale.Leads teams responding to Armed Active Shooter incidents and effectively employs knowledge to preserve life of all those involved.Additionally leads teams responding to all calls involving an individual armed with a firearm or bladed weapon.Responsible for evaluating and adjusting access points during Trauma activations and Mass Casualty events.

Ensures development of reports as scheduled and follow-up:

Ensures that the appropriate security incident reports and related forms are reviewed and submitted to the leadership.

Maintains a security posture in accordance with department policies/procedures and/or as directed:

Ensures that the components of the electronic security system(s) are operational and monitored and that security patrols are established, monitored, and documented.Ensures the assigned posts are established and monitored for effectiveness making sure hospital and associated grounds are secured as appropriate.Ensures valuables are accounted for and secured upon receipt.Takes predetermined action and renders assistance in emergencies such as accident, fire, and illness.Communicates with service users about security needs and problems.

Oversees shift training plans and conducts informal training:

Monitors the security department's activities and officers' responses.Analyzes emergency situations, makes quick responsible decisions, develops and implements a sound plan of action to neutralize the situation or resolve the problem, incident, or vulnerability.Ensures training of staff and recommends key points for performance reviews of security force.

Your must haves

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.Valid driver’s license, with clean driving record.Six (6) months public safety experience at University Medical Center New Orleans or a minimum of one (1) year experience as a law enforcement supervisor with the rank of sergeant or higher.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Defensive Driving Certification - Defensive Driving Certification Issuer.Certified with OC spray with exposure.P.O.S.T Certification – Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator – International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS).Hand to hand defensive tactics training.

PROVIDED TRAINING

Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Certificate (CPI, NCI-CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute.OC spray with exposure.Annual Firearm Qualifications.Yearly LCMC / UMC Regulatory Healthcare training as required.Yearly LCMC Active Shooter Refresher course.

EQUIPMENT

Employees must provide:

Level III Duty Holster.Duty weapon with 4-inch barrel.Name plate.Footwear.

University Medical Center New Orleans will provide:

Uniform including coat or sweater.Duty gear including but not limited to radio, handcuffs, duty belt, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Proficient in English with verbal and written communication skills.Basic knowledge and use of security equipment to include radios, alarm systems, CCTV systems, etc.Must have knowledge of local, state, and federal laws that may include organized training from a Law Enforcement Academy Topics.Must be able to deescalate situations involving aggressive, combative, and behavioral health issues pertaining to patients.Professionalism, ethics, laws and criminal codes, crisis intervention, universal precautions, firearms defensive tactics and handcuffing.Must have the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.Must interact with others who may be criminal, violent, disruptive, combative, disoriented, etc.Ability to transport patients as required.Willing to be trained, skilled, and proficient with handcuffs, OC spray, and restraining.Ability to pass the LCMC Active Shooter Course (practical) annually.
