GENERAL DUTIES

Supervises departmental employees to include new employee orientation, competency assessment, performance evaluation, and handling of personnel matters as delegated/designated by department manager/director.

Provides departmental management to include both technical and personnel issues. Ensures that the laboratory section is in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Assists with departmental annual budget and assists with implementation of department goals, objectives and related projects.

Maintains employee accountability with all hospital policies and procedures.

Encourages participation from employees in the ongoing delivery of care/services. Empowers staff to make suggestions for improvement of care delivery/services.

Responsible for conducting performance evaluations and competency assessments in a timely manner as evidenced by completed evaluations.

Taking time to explain objectives, provide training for new staff and ongoing coaching.

Schedules employees and staffs department in accordance with staffing plan and care/service needs.

Reconciles timecards/demonstrates accurate and timely approval of employees' time records.

Plans, directs, and coordinates clinical activities for the section. Provides expertise in the evaluation and interpretation of test results and the resolution of discrepancies. Monitors section activities and takes appropriate action when required. Performs final review of all quality management systems.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

5 years of experience as a medical technologist.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist or Specialist. (CLS - Generalist or CLS - Specialist) by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME).
