The Supervisor, Janitorial ensures janitorial and cleaning services for Metro Transit support buildings are provided in a timely manner and with high quality.
This position will be directly involved with the development of a productive and positive work environment for all department staff members.
Working to address the needs of our facilities and supporting all of Metro Transit’s internal customers and departments that we are tasked to support.
What you would do in this job
Supervise personnel:
+ Keeps manager informed and lead employees on goal. Make sure lead employeees are using labor efficiently and safely.
+ Plans, establishes priorities, assigns work, monitors progress and evaluates results of work unit activities and projects; Maintains time and attendance records on employees supervised.
+ Determines the times, materials and equipment required for janitorial services.
+ Instructs employees in the use and care of equipment and supplies. Provides instruction to employees on the standard cleaning procedures and ensures they are adhered to.
+ Supervises, evaluates performance and develops employees. Maintains staffing and performance records. Counsels, coaches, and maintains documentation on employees. Performs other employee relations activities.
+ Coordinates work unit activities with division work units and with other functional areas.
+ Ensures the compliance of all agency policies/procedures. Enforces safety policies/procedures.
+ Ensures there is upward as well as downward communication within the division. Continually explores ways to improve communication.
+ Continually works to improve overall management of performance within the department.
+ Provides a workplace free from harassment and discrimination. Accountable for the compliance of the affirmative action policy.
+ Oversees contracts relating to cleaning services.
Works with personnel to analyze and resolve customer complaints and problems in the most effective manner. Assists the Manager Facility Services in determining cleaning frequencies, employee workloads and quality levels. Make regular quality inspections and reports the results to the Manager Services. Establishes non-routine daily work priorities for janitorial staff at the facilities.
Assigns janitorial personnel to adjust for absences and special projects at all facilities.
Works with purchasing department through the complete procurement process, as well as investigating new equipment, and products before purchasing.
Monitors expenditures to ensure adherence to budget.
Order department materials and equipment as needed to support operations.
Works with management, and other managers in the development, documentation and implementation of policies and procedures relating to department responsibility, such as FMLA, OSHA, Council policies, discipline and motivation.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience in janitorial or commercial cleaning and completed education (degree field of study in business or management , or closely related field):
+ High school diploma/GED with five (5) years of experience ( janitorial or commercial cleaning) including two (2) years of experience in management or supervision.
+ Associate degree with three (3) years of similar experience, including two (2) years of experience in management or supervision.
+ Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year of similar experience, including two (2) years of experience in management or supervision.
Desired Qualifications:
+ Cleaning in indoor and outdoor environments.
+ Experience in a multiple geographic environment.
+ Experience in an industrial environment.
+ Experience working in a union environment as a supervisor.
License Requirement:
+ Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Ability to provide direction and supervision to a large widely dispersed group of independently operating workers.
+ Ability to work with outside vendors for product and cleaning service contractors.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in written, oral and electronic form.
+ Ability to keep records and write reports.
+ Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
+ Must be able to interpret the Metro Transit union contract.
+ Knowledge of laws and ordinances regarding maintenance safety and accident prevention.
+ Knowledge of proper cleaning processes and procedures.
+ Ability to develop and implement procedures, costs, estimates. budgets, records, and reports.
+ Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities simultaneously.
+ The ability to promote a positive work environment while supporting department staff members.
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
+ Good work record.

You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites.
