Examples of Duties + Assign responsibilities, prepare shift schedules, coordinate work, and ensure coverage when employees are unavailable or unable to perform work. + Provide clear direction, set priorities, build in accountability, and monitor to track performance. + Interview, hire, orient, and train Animal Care Technicians and Animal Shelter Assistants. + Conduct annual reviews, set performance goals, and provide feedback and coaching to meet goals and develop staff skill levels. + Instruct new personnel in the policies, procedures, and general operations of animal care and control. + Prepare accident reports, recommendations for disciplinary actions, and responses to citizen complaints. + Explain departmental policies and interpret laws, ordinances, and procedures for subordinate staff and the public. + Monitor work activities of Animal Care Technicians and Animal Shelter Assistants. + Review all work records and activity reports to ensure accuracy and proper filing. + Perform euthanasia of sick, injured, or unclaimed animals ensuring humane, safe, and proper procedures are employed. + Ensure basic vehicle, equipment, building, and incinerator maintenance tasks are performed in a timely manner. + Assist in budget preparation and monitoring of operational expenditures. + Prepare daily cash reconciliation report. + Monitor the radio and telephone systems to maintain full communication with Animal Care Technicians, Animal Shelter Assistants, Veterinarians, other agencies, and the public. Minimum Qualifications + High School Graduation or G.E.D. + Three (3) years of experience in a municipal animal care facility or a related position.
