Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director of PK-12 Schools, the UT High School Special Purpose District Superintendent will manage operations of the university's online high school education and support programs, along with related partnerships with public school districts and other educational organizations.

ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership: Develop and implement systems, training, and support to enhance UT High School programs and services, including generating revenue and expanding offerings for full-time students, independent learners, and international/domestic partner schools.Compliance & Standards: Ensure alignment with UT Austin and TEA standards, policies, and state/federal laws. Oversee compliance with graduation requirements, including state assessments.Ethical Standards: Adhere to professional ethical standards and ensure alignment with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics.Student & Family Engagement: Assist school principals and other educational staff with resolving disputes and foster a strong sense of community among students, parents, and teachers.Curriculum & Innovation: Provide high-quality, innovative learning experiences and promote best practices in online technologies to support student success.Strategic Partnerships: Serve as the primary point of contact for school districts, educational organizations, and other strategic partners.Operations Oversight: Plan, budget, staff, market, and manage special programs like the Texas Diploma Program, International High School Diploma Program, and Empower Academy, and Independent Learner Program.Continuous Improvement: Use data-driven strategies to measure student outcomes, enhance programs, and ensure alignment with educational goals.Staff Development: Recruit, train, and oversee staff, ensuring professional development and effective integration with educational platforms and systems.Other Duties: Perform additional related functions as assigned.

Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in educational leadership, policy, or a related field.Active Texas Superintendent Certification.Minimum of 10 years of K-12 experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.At least 6 years in a campus or district-level leadership role as a director or higher.Expertise in virtual school operations, including online curriculum development and instructional strategies.Proven ability to lead districtwide initiatives, establish systems, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with Texas Education Code.Strong communication, data analysis, and project management skills in both in-person and online environments.

Preferred QualificationsDoctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Policy, or a related field.Experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent in a Texas K-12 district.Demonstrated success in managing virtual schools, including learning management systems like Canvas and student information systems such as Skyward.Proven track record in strategic planning, grant management, and professional development for educators.Extensive knowledge of special programs, including Special Education, Gifted and Talented, and Emergent Bilingual programs.

Salary Range

$150,000 + depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
