Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide ongoing technical support to the production team to achieve operational goals. Assist operations in implementing guidelines, rules, and process recipes. Manage furnace process chemistry control and raw material feedstock ratios. Monitor raw material and product analysis, adjusting feed ratios to meet quality specifications. Modify technical parameters to minimize the effects of process upsets. Analyze final product quality and raise non-conformances when necessary. Report monthly on production, metallurgical accounting data, and stock issues. Trend, interpret, and report on key plant process parameters for management discussions. Identify and drive plant process improvement initiatives. Initiate and manage process improvement projects to successful implementation. Support process failure investigations and troubleshoot operational issues. Actively participate in incident investigations, ensuring timely resolution. Ensure compliance with ISO requirements for furnace and treatment areas. Assist the production team in developing production forecasts for budgeting. Work with SHE teams on environmental compliance related to license-to-operate requirements. Continuously assess and develop the competency levels of metallurgists in chemistry control. Manage team leave, overtime, and scheduling tasks effectively. Participate in key operational meetings as required. Education:
B.Sc. in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering. Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in a heavy industry environment, particularly in arc furnaces or molten metal treatment. Strong management skills Skills & Knowledge:
Extensive experience in heavy industry, preferably ilmenite smelting or pyrometallurgy. Strong understanding of research and development principles in the metallurgical sector. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Commercial awareness and understanding of business impacts of metallurgical processes. Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
