Summer Trainee, Research and Communication Specialist – European Research Projects

We are now looking for a

Summer Trainee, Research and Communication Specialist – European Research Projects

To identify internal and external opportunities for wider R&D consortium collaboration in Europe. To pre-screen and summarize relevant European fundings calls under the European commission. To create content in written and visual form to communicate R&D program targets and roadmaps to external partners. The work is conducted in close collaboration across KONE internal KTI organization, global communication team and Business Finland.

You will be part of KONE external funding project team within KONE Innovation unit in Espoo, Finland.

We are looking for a student with ongoing Bachelor’s or Master’s studies (3rd – 5th year student) to work for 4 months between May and September 2025, based on availability and preference.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the impact of research and development activities in one of the leading innovative companies globally. You will gain first-hand knowledge about European research initiatives (such as Horizon Europe, Eureka) and industry trends. You will get to develop your skills in creating targeted communication content for large-scale R&D partnership program.

There is a good possibility to carry out Master Thesis later.

In order to be successful in this role, you preferably have

Research Skills

Ability to identify, analyze and summarize European research projects and funding opportunities (e.g. Horizon Europe, EUREKA)

Experience with academic or industrial literature reviews

Communication Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication in both Finnish and English language. Finnish language skills are needed due research applications being only in Finnish and requirements of certain external partners

Proficiency in additional European languages (e.g., French and German) is an advantage

Interpersonal and Organizations Skills

Team player with strong collaboration skills

Proactive approach to networking with project stakeholders, researchers, and organizations

Strong attention to detail relative to reviewing large scientific and technical text material

Computer and Web Page Design Skills

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaborative workspace tools (Teams, Sharepoint, MIRO)

Basic knowledge of web design tools and platforms (e.g., WordPress, Wix, or HTML/CSS)

Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe XD) is a plus

Analytical Thinking

Capability to evaluate the relevance of novel research projects to the Innovation roadmap

Background

Currently studying in a Bachelor's or Master's program in a relevant field, such as: Communication Studies, Business Administration, International Relations

Previous experience in research, communication, or project management (internships or academic projects) is desirable

Work or study-related experience in creating and sharing communication content in various formats, e.g. presentations, reports, or other communication materials for diverse audiences

Ability to design content and maintain a simple webpage for communication purposes is a big advantage

Basic understanding of Research & Development projects and technical concepts in engineering (mechanical & electrical & software preferably) is a big plus

Personal Qualifications

Curious and eager to learn about European research and development initiatives and industry trends.

Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and eagerly engage with others.
