LOCATION
Positions available at both Meadows Park Pool and The Swim & Racquet Center
SCHEDULE
Must be available to work at least two full shifts (7:00 am - 5:15 pm) and one-half shift (5–6-hour day) per week.
20 - 25 hours per week
Varied hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs responsible protective service work ensuring the safe use of the City's public swimming facilities by pool visitors; aiding troubled bathers in emergencies. Completes related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Functions
+ Maintains discipline at a swimming pool facility
+ Observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules
+ Provides emergency life saving services to swimmers in need
RELATED TASKS:
+ Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule
+ Meets and greets patrons; resolves conflicts; explains pool rules, regulations, and policies
+ Performs pool opening and closing procedures
+ Registers instruction program participants
+ Sells pool permits; operates cash register
+ Assists with special events
+ Performs related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
+ water safety rules and of lifesaving and first aid practices and techniques
+ cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies
Skilled in:
+ swimming
Ability to:
+ maintain chemical balance of pool water
+ work safely with toxic chemicals
+ enforce rules and remain calm under stress
+ clean and maintain a swimming pool and related facilities
+ pass annual requalification testing
+ pass American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen Administration classes, during first year of employment
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of tenth (10th) grade.
CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:
+ Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LGT) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR PR).

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY
Part-Time Employees
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year
PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.
MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
