Position Availability: May 20, 2024 – August 26, 2024 Position Title: Summer Community Assistant - 2024 Requisition Number: 0406073403 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Provost/Provost's Office Responsibilities: The New School Facilities Management is responsible for maintaining and operating the buildings on campus. Facilities Management is dedicated to excellent customer service in all aspects of its operations. We invite feedback and suggestions from all members of the university community that will help us make the New School campus beautiful, safe, and sustainable.
We are seeking competent Community Assistants (CA) to support the daily operation of the residence hall offices and mail rooms over the Summer of 2024. Based on needs and talents, this position will assist with our mail room and building operations, graphic design, social media influence, office coverage and in-building deliveries.
The ideal candidate will be a hard-working paraprofessional able to undertake a variety of tasks, is detail-oriented, creative, will use discretion, exude confidence in making decisions, and work well under pressure. The qualified candidate will be able to prioritize their work and will rise to the challenge of incorporating new and effective strategies to achieve the best results.

RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain and adhere to all social distancing policies which includes wearing a mask (if applicable). Complete paperwork (logs, reports,etc) administrative tasks neatly, legibly, and thoroughly. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Contact Hall Staff regarding emergencies as necessary. Assist with office coverage as needed which includes but is not limited to answer questions, filing, assisting with lockouts, etc. Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with summer residence hall occupants. Assist with in-hall food delivery pick-up and door delivery when requested. Other duties as assigned.


PACKAGE AND MAIL ROOM RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain a visually appealing, clean, and sanitized work area. Check and respond to building emails and voicemails. Participate in monthly meetings and necessary CA training sessions as assigned. Sort, distribute, and track packages/mail. Manage all aspects of mail delivery including monitoring all mail/package, communications, package return, and collaboration with Campus Safety. Log receipt and issuing of packages in the computer system. Proactively check mailboxes and contact residents for over stuffed mailboxes. For mail room specific duties, report to the Senior Mail Clerk to ensure consistent operations while offering a high level of customer service.
GRAPHIC DESIGN AND SOCIAL MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES Provide creative design and layout of print material that include but are not limited to: marketing materials, program and event posters, program and event advertisements, t-shirt designs, brochures and publications, banners, etc. (adhere to University branding and style guide within all design work) Work within, and maintain appropriate project timelines and deadlines Present ideas to Facilities Management team in a timely manner and meet with staff to adjust designs to fit individual needs or stylistic desires Collaborate with the Housing staff to generate content for social media channels Assist in the management of departmental social media accounts, including creation and editing of photo and video content
WORK MODE
The Facilities Management (Summer Housing) Community Assistant (CA) position at The New School is an on-campus position for the duration of the summer, Monday, May 20 th, 2024 and ending Sunday, August 26, 2024. The CA will work 8 office hours per week

COMPENSATION
Space in a double room on campus (w/roommate) Minimum Qualifications: Ability to coordinate with outside mailing vendors (i.e., UPS, FedEx, etc.) Ability to lift packages they weigh at least 20 pounds. Excellent customer service skills Clear communication skills: listening, verbal & written skills etc. Dexterity, efficiency and self motivation to sort large volumes of mail. Good organizational skills, reliable, dependable, and attentive to details


Preferred Qualifications: Graphic design experience or courses Ability to use computer software including Google and Microsoft Suite. Experience with Adobe Creative Suites (PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator), Email (Google Suite, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet.
