In this paid internship, you’ll be empowered to work on challenging and complex issues in a collaborative environment with other talented interns. Over the 10-week program, you’ll participate in business projects, mentoring, leadership development training and team-building activities designed to set you up for professional success. The summer Internship program runs June through August, with flexible dates available, based on school schedules. As part of Risk Management, the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team is at the center of keeping Western Alliance strong and resilient. We help the Company grow its businesses in a responsible way by anticipating new and emerging risks, and using our expert judgement to monitor and assess internal and external trends that could impact our company. Our culture in Risk Management is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class. We also take great pride in on our commitment to operating with integrity and discipline in all that we do. The Financial Risk Management team is responsible for ensuring the Balance Sheet risk profile is transparent to senior management, the Board of Directors and regulators. We execute on this framework by monitoring and assessing our funding profile, risk adjusted capital levels, and interest rate risk regularly while anticipating new and emerging risks.

Capstone Project: Financial Risk Metrics - Peer Analyses - Comprehensive presentation with in-depth peer analyses and benchmarking using Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQProjects:  Liquidity, Interest Rate Risk, Portfolio, and Capital Risk Peer Analyses & Deep Dives– weekly touchpoints with each Risk Manager and Head of FRM to learn about risk areas and follow up on projects/assignments from each risk groupSummer Readings – Bank Balance Sheet Management and Financial Risk Management, 2008/2023 Financial Crises with Case StudiesMeet and Greets - FRM team and partners in Treasury, Enterprise Risk Management, Strategic Risk Management, and Model Risk Management

You may be a fit for the program if you meet certain eligibility requirements, including:

Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a related field of studyGPA of 3.0 or higher Intermediate MS Excel/PowerpointStrong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervisionAn interest in working in the Commercial Business Banking industryPreferred: Basic knowledge of Bank Balance SheetPreferred: Knowledge of Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, Economics/Finance undergraduate major.
