Subassembly Technician III

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will provide tactical and technical support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro/mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

A Shift: Monday-Thursday 5:00AM-3:30PM

B Shift: Monday-Thursday 3:00PM-1:30AM

C Shift: Friday-Sunday 5:00AM-5:30PM

D Shift: Friday-Sunday 5:00PM-5:30AM

Precision assembly of rocket engine components: combustion devices, valves, turbomachinery, avionics, testRoot cause and diagnostic component disassembly, repair, and workHydraulic testing for valve actuationNitrogen and Helium leak testingPreparation for environmental testingHydro proof structural testing of componentsDetailed component inspection to tolerances of 0.0001inCreating and maintaining strict cleanliness requirements (liquid/gaseous oxygen compatibility)Support the design, procurement, installation, and integration of custom manufacturing and test equipmentHelp maintain inventory of tooling and equipmentSafely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and high-pressure operationsDefine how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flightIdentify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build scheduleSupport DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build and testSupport the development of manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing processes: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, and integration, and refurbishmentIdentify non-conformances and escapes, support and deploy corrective actions

Qualifications:

4 to 6 years of direct valve, turbomachinery, or engine assembly experienceMastery of precision and tight tolerance assemblyStrong ability to interpret engineering drawingsExtensive experience reading and understanding specification and detailed work instructionsProven experience and successful track record developing new processesStrong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organizationAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusionMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Physical Requirements:Climb ladders and stairsLift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durationsWork schedule may vary and depend on hardware and testingRemain flexible by working overtime and weekends (when necessary)Able and willing to travel for the first 6-12 months for training.
