Provides competent and age specific services for assisting in transporting patients between patient rooms, ancillary departments, and other areas within Jackson Madison County General Hospital. They will assist with providing other assigned procedures under the supervision of the department management and licensed personnel while maintaining productivity standards and occupational growth.This position is under the direction of the Manager and Supervisor of Patient Transportation, the Transport Tech is responsible for, but not limited to, the transports of inpatients and outpatients between hospital departments. Employee will assist in direct and indirect patient care, including patient transfers, patient lifts, and other tasks that promote quality patient satisfaction. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receives and documents complete information regarding patient transport from patient tracking system and/or dispatcher.
- Assist with safely transporting inpatients and outpatients between hospital departments using wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or escort as appropriate.
- Assists with performing direct and indirect patient care responsibilities to meet patient needs.
- Always ensures patient safety by checking patient's armband and chart; using Seatbelts when available; placing guardrails in the upright position at all times during transport; properly transporting oxygen and IV pumps with patients; assisting patient to and from bed to wheelchair to stretcher.
- Ensures patient record accompanies patient. Signs patient on and off the nursing unit when transported.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring continued occupational growth.
- Incorporates age specific principles into job responsibilities and communication skills.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement Plan.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
- Clean equipment as needed
- Gather and return transport equipment (stretchers, wheelchairs, and O2 holders) to the proper storage areas
- Maintain O2 storage closets and remove empty canisters and replace them
