Job Purpose:
The online Student Wellness Manager is accountable for overseeing the overall psychosocial wellbeing of distance learning students through providing counselling services, social education and awareness programmes and life skills development.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Counselling
• Implement online primary counselling services, and trauma containment.
• Develop online platforms to market, communicate and promote the online counselling services to students.
• Maintain case files and counselling statistics within SACSSP/HPCSA standards.
• Make referrals to various stakeholders based on issues identified for specialized further treatment.
Social Awareness and Education (SAE) & special concessions
• Plan, manage and implement the online SAE plan as aligned to the National Wellness Planner.
• Design and plan effective Social Awareness & Education Campaigns aimed at addressing campus and students’ specific needs.
• Manage the effective implementation of SAE projects using online platforms.
• Evaluate and analyze SAE programmes to inform future planning.
• Manage special concessions – identify, confirm suggestions for accommodations, support, and help students with specific education needs apply for any concession required.
Community Engagement
• Conduct community-based research that aims to address problems and issues that are important to communities (needs assessment).
• Monitor, evaluate and analyze projects conducted by contact SWMs to inform future planning, and measure impact of projects.
• Create, manage, and maintain relationships with potential service providers that may support community services or student needs.
Management of Student Town Hall meetings, ISC and FAF
• Consistent planning and execution of Town Hall meetings for online students.
• Engaging with class representatives to raise awareness of the Town Hall meetings, and identify students’ concerns early.
• Encourage active participation and engagement of online students in Town Hall meetings.
• Preparing and ensuring the online students are represented at the IIE Institutional Student Council (ISC) and IIE Faculty Academic (FAF) meetings
Reporting
• Ensure sufficient and timely documentation in records – including counselling reports in accordance with respective professional body and company policies.
• Consolidate weekly, monthly and semester reporting.
• Complete all on-line tracking systems.
Bursaries
• Report on support services provided to bursary students.
• Manage the roll-out of internal bursary opportunities at a campus level.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
Minimum
• NQF Level 8 Qualification in Social work or counselling psychology
Advantageous
• NQF Level 9 Qualification in Social work or counselling psychology
Experience
Minimum
• 1 – 2 years of Virtual and telephone counselling experience, post-qualification
Advantageous
• 2-3 years’ experience working with the youth.
• Comfortable using technology for uploading and accessing client files.
• Availability on evenings and weekends is considered a plus.
