Student Success Navigator
Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees. Campus: Cranford General Description: The Student Success Navigator will be responsible for supporting Operation Graduation to address on-time degree completion and supporting student retention goals to work towards closing the achievement gap. The Navigator is responsible for providing holistic student services including academic advising, monitoring student progress, resolving registration issues related to advising, student outreach, and supporting student workshops. Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities: • Provides intensive, intrusive academic advising with focus on educational planning and timely program completion. • Has knowledge of successful retention strategies and implements student retention programs as directed. • Responsible for retention efforts with first-time, full-time cohorts. • Facilitates group activities to support students’ progression toward degree completion. • Assist in implementing programs and events which will enable and facilitate cultural awareness and enhance awareness of the achievement gap issues. • Develops and implements student development workshops, career and employment topics, and personal development. • Assists students with Student self-service, College portal, and College e-mail instruction, tuition/fee payment instruction, and information on internal and external scholarship opportunities. • Prepares reports and studies containing findings and recommendations for the review, information, and assistance of the student development division. • Reads, interprets, and communicates College policies and procedures. • Recommends improvements in department procedures. Collaborates with other staff/administrators/faculty to identify needed improvements in procedures and communication. • Maintains records of students served and services provided. Maintains essential records and files. • Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor. Education Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree required in a field related to the position. Experience: • Experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds in a higher education setting. Physical Demands and Work Environment: • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. • No or very limited exposure to physical risk. • Some travel required.
