Student Nurse Extern
Overview The Nurse Externship Program is sponsored by the Nursing Education Department and is a 9-week program beginning May 19th in which you will partner with an experienced Registered Nurse preceptor in a Medical/Surgical or Emergency Department setting. You will gain a wealth of skills and experience that will help prepare you for your future career in nursing. The 36 to 40 hours paid work week will combine orientation activities, continuing education classes, and Nurse Aide skills. Requirements: Must be rising senior in an accredited nursing program Must be listed as a North Carolina Nurse Aide I or II Must have a strong desire to learn The Nurse Extern supports and incorporates WakeMed's Patient & Family Centered Care (PFCC) model by delivering patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The four key concepts of PFCC are: Dignity and Respect = Listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices. Information Sharing = Communicate and share complete and unbiased information with patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful. Participation = Patients and families are encouraged and supported in participating in care and decision-making at the level they choose. Collaboration = Patients and families and the Nurse Aide collaborate in the delivery of care.
