Student Life Coordinator - Transition Academy **POSITION DETAILS** Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research. Reporting to the Student Life Director of the Transition Academy, the Student Life Coordinator will serve students and families in the homeless community. S/he will be responsible for assisting with ensuring students and families within the community and providers are aware of and educated about the services and opportunities available to homeless families at Medgar Evers College (MEC) and at the Transition Academy. The successful candidate will assist with engaging vulnerable and at-risk homeless families. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: - Maintain proper client and program documentation. Collect and enter information and case notes on each student in an accurate and timely manner. -Collaborate with program and agency staff/team to assist in the design and implementation of program operations and policies. - Provide information regarding services and assist in supporting the goals of the client’s service plan. - Assist in communicating with targeted student population, advisory groups, and external organizations. - Coordinate workshops for students in need. - Maintain absolute confidentiality with respect to information concerning students. - Identify community agencies and resources that provide services to homeless students. Participate in community outreach and visit various agencies - Assist with ensuring MEC students receive emergency or non-emergency social services, directly or through referrals. **QUALIFICATIONS** Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in higher education setting, particularly in a student services area. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. - Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks. - Ability to provide courteous and accurate customer service. - Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. - Proficient with the computer. - Ability to work flexible hours. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Assists in preparing and providing student support services to promote the personal development of a diverse student population. - Assists student organizations/clubs in planning, implementing events and programs, and managing expenditures - Coordinates and helps present informational and educational programs, such as student leadership training and orientation - Assists with the management of student affairs facilities, such as acquiring equipment and arranging event logistics - May assume responsibility for one or more specific student programs - Performs related duties as assigned.
