Job Title Student Hourly Assistant | Tutoring Agency Prairie View A&M University Department Academic Engagement and Student Success Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Prairie View, Texas Job Type Student Worker Job Description The University Tutoring Center (UTC) is currently seeking to hire student hourly assistants to tutor College Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, etc. The candidates selected will report directly to the Coordinator of Tutoring Services. Responsibilities: + Establishing and maintaining rapport with the assigned student(s). + Assisting students in the development of appropriate study skills. + Modeling appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty, and students. + Serving as a role model for students receiving services. + Maintaining consistent communication with supervisory staff. + Attending mandatory tutor training meetings. + Fostering a comprehensive learning environment. + Performing other assigned duties as required. Required Education and Experience: + Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done. + Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA + No prior experience necessary + For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term. Preferred Education and Experience: + A minimum grade of a "B" in Health Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, etc). + Must meet the tutoring requirements for at least three UTC- offered courses (listed below). Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Ability to tutor three or more of the following courses: BIOL 1307 Microbiology BIOL 1308, 1309 Bio for Non-Majors I, II BIOL 1411 Botany BIOL 1501, 1502 General Biology I, II BIOL 2401 Anatomy/ Physiology I BIOL 2416 Genetics BIOL 3307 Molecular Biology I CHEM 1303 Gen. Inorg. Chem I CHEM 1304 Gen. Inorg. Chem II CHEM 1306 Intro. Chemistry CHEM 2303 Gen. Org. Chemistry I CHEM 2304 Gen. Org. Chemistry II Other Requirements: + At least one semester at PVAMU.
