Student Financial Solutions Specialist
Location: Oneonta, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Thu Mar 13 2025 Job Description: Light the way for student success as our new Student Financial Solutions Specialist in the Student Accounts Office. In addition to overall Student Accounts Office support, this position will serve as the liaison to various student groups, including study abroad students, students participating in Faculty Led Programs, SUNY cross-registered students and Access and Opportunity Program students. The position requires problem solving skills as well as maintaining a high-level standard of customer service and relationship building with students, families, and with constituents on and off campus. Expectations include, providing one-on-one support to students with outstanding balances, assisting with and providing group presentations to select student groups and families, and collaborating with other offices to identify "road blocks" to student financial success and helping to implement efficiencies. The Student Accounts Office provides assistance and information designed to enable students and families to meet their educational expenses with minimal stress. The office processes personal payments, third party payments, and all financial aid and scholarship disbursements. Refunds are delivered to students in the most efficient manner possible. Duties include but are not limited to: + Serving as the primary point of contact for students in the Access and Opportunity Programs (AOP) and students participating in overseas and faculty led programs regarding their financial accounts, including group presentations, meeting one-on-one, and attending various student-centered functions. + Managing the SUNY Cross Registration portal for SUNY Oneonta cross registered students. This includes, troubleshooting student registrations, communicating with students, various offices on campus, and host institutions, preparing reports for senior administrators, and processing and reconciling incoming and outgoing payments. + Planning and implementing specific outreach strategies for students with overdue balances and escalating past due accounts to collection agencies (including the NYS Attorney General's Office) as necessary. This requires understanding of and compliance with relevant institutional policies as well as NYS and Federal laws. + Managing student account receivables from third-party payment arrangements (e.g. ACCES VR or NYS Commission for the Blind), preparing reports, monitoring student eligibility status, and performing reconciliations. + Providing overall support to the Student Accounts Office including assisting students with understanding tuition and fees, financial aid and scholarship disbursements, student refunds and collaborating with other offices to resolve student account discrepancies. This position will be expected to respond to inquiries through the general office email, the phone queue, and occasional in-person office visits. Salary: $55,151. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree + Two years of experience working in a high-volume customer service environment + Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, families, and colleagues from different backgrounds + Proficiency using Microsoft Excel in addition to other Microsoft Office Suite applications + Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously Preferred: + Demonstrated ability to create and deliver presentations effectively to large and small audiences. + Knowledge of higher education billing practices + Familiarity with student financial aid programs + Experience developing and implementing successful outreach strategies and initiatives. + Experience working in higher education as a professional or para-professional + Experience using database products such as Ellucian Banner and Argos + Experience working with and serving diverse populations Additional Information: SUNY Oneonta enrolls about 5,500 students who pursue bachelor's or master's degrees or certificates in one of 70-plus academic programs.
